Bio

Across The Wide was formed in 2008 by Cumming, GA, natives Jody Abernathy and Mark Mundy to showcase their original country music. Whether it's a packed three-night run at The Bluebird Cafe, a sold-out opening slot with Jeffrey Steel at Nashville's 3rd & Lindsley, or a raucous night at one of Atlanta's honky tonk bars, Across The Wide deliver a show loaded with superior musicianship, compelling songs, and strong vocals, perfectly in keeping with the long tradition of American country music.

Jody Abernathy (lead vocals & guitar) has been a musician ever since teaming up with his friend Mark Mundy while still in high school. After playing in many bands, in every genre that caught their interest, the two decided together to focus on the country music that was closest to their hearts. Jody is a skilled, evocative songwriter, able to capture a wide range of emotion and experience in his songs, and in 2007, was one of only 12 songwriters chosen to participate in Jeffery Steele's Songwriting Bootcamp in Nashville. His strong vocals recall the best of country's old-school stylists, with a broad range and emotional delivery.

Mark Mundy (lead guitar & vocals)was born into music, he says. My parents, brother, cousins, grandparents, and even my great-grandfather were all musicians. Though he first learned music in bluegrass groups, rock & roll and country music, the electric guitar became his true calling. After a tour in the US Army, he dove head first into performing in bands, including Allgood, The Urban Shakedancers, The Hooplas, and many others. I am happier with this line-up of musicians than I have ever been, says Mark about Across The Wide. As you listen, you can easily hear his eclectic list of influences including Tony Rice, Doc and Merle Watson, Eddie Van Halen, and George Harrison, to name a few.

Brad Williams (bass guitar & vocals) was born into a musical family. "As long as I can remember, my family has been playing & singing together. My dad is a great piano player, and my mom is an amazing singer. All of my aunts, uncles, and cousins can sing." In 1990, Brad appeared on the television show, "Star Search". Brad first trained as a classical percussionist & attended Belmont University in Nashville, TN; however, bass guitar & singing is where he realized his musical path. Brad was a member of Livin' Large, one of the top corporate bands in Atlanta. Although he is versatile in a wide variety of styles, country music is Brad's favorite to play & sing. Brad is excited to be a new member of Across the Wide.

Born and raised in the heart of the bayou country, Mouton (drums) was molded by the sights and sounds of the great South-Louisiana culture, witness to a talent-rich environment that has produced genre-defining artists like Sonny Landreth, Allen Toussaint, Michael Doucet & BeauSoleil and Buckwheat Zydeco. Combined with the influence of the Jazz, Second-line and Funk sounds of Creole New Orleans that produced the Meters, Neville Brothers, Dr. John and Professor Longhair, Mouton developed a unique style and approach that would thrust him into the local music scene as one of the most versatile and in-demand drummers available. Though probably best known for his long-time work with the Mike Veal Band (Mike Veal, Barry Thrasher, Tom Grose, Tommy Vickery) and Against the Grain (Cowboys Kennesaw House Band with James David Carter & Eric Key), his performance bio reads like a whos-who of amazing musicians spreading across multiple genres of music. He has approached all musical situations with a style, sound and feel like no other a result of a fortunate environment of diverse cultures, influences and experience.
