""The band's steely intensity recalls the moody rock of The National...""

A Lion Named Roar are ready to make a big sound. The Louisville quintet has been together for more than six years -- a seemingly Olympic-size prep time that's led to songs sounding more focused than a mid-race Ryan Lochte.

Emerging from the birthplace of groups such as My Morning Jacket and Ben Sollee, ALNR have already drawn nationwide attention: When the band went by the name Waketheday, they beat out 6,000 acts on Fox's reality competition "The Next Great American Band." Now the group's released their latest, "This Won't Last for Long," a passionate guitar anthem that'll stick in your mind like the pilot for "Lost." (Or was that just us?)

On "This Won't Last For Long," the band's steely intensity recalls the moody rock of The National, before leaping into a high-energy chorus that's halfway between The Killers and "Summer of '69." "Time is on my side when I'm with you," frontman Chris Jackson sings.

""...ALNR viciously attacks the sub-par pop playing field on all fours.""

Occasionally an alt. rock band bubbles to the surface that we can’t get enough of. To our delight, today is that day. A Lion Named Roar has the X-factor – pop-laced hooks and an ear-grabbing ensemble like band we’ve loved in the past such as Fair and Siberian. The youth to their latest track “This Won’t Last For Long” is both electrifying and wittingly-accessible. As the band’s bio describes, they are “pop music drenched in blue collar sweat and moral fiber”.

There’s not much else to be said here – A Lion Named Roar viciously attacks the sub-par pop playing field on all fours. “This Won’t Last For Long” marks a fantastic first effort for these budding musicians. - Music Under Fire

Bio

A Lion Named Roar are men. Men that make pop music drenched in blue collar sweat and moral fiber. Although you’ll hear hushed sanctions of influence like The Killers and The Jayhawks, there are no apologies involved, because men don’t apologize.

'Foreign Land', the band's debut EP, landed on Nov 27, 2012. A Lion Named Roar is currently in the studio and is expected to release their debut full-length early this fall.

Chris Jackson’s voice binds these men together in a chinook of rarefied falsetto and powerful words that surely gave birth to A Lion Named Roar’s non de guerre. Though they’re reside in the birthplace of bands like My Morning Jacket, Palace, and Ben Sollee, A Lion Named Roar’s time is now.
