Meet Our Friends: MEM

Posted By from June 3, 2010

altA couple of days ago, I was passing some people playing tennis in Brooklyn when, out of the corner of my eye, I randomly saw someone behind the fence who looked a hell of a lot like one of my old friends from college. I thought I was going crazy because, I mean, surely it was impossible that I would just randomly bump in to someone I knew in the middle of New York, right? Still I went with it. What the hell? So I walked towards the courts and – low and behold – I was not going mad. Unbeknownst to me, my buddy Scott had moved to New York and he was, in fact, playing tennis right before my eyes!

How crazy is that?

Needless to say, Scott and I spontaneously grabbed some grub and had one of those great catch up chats. He told me he was playing in a band called MEM [Official, Myspace, ReverbNation] and invited me to a show they were putting on at Mercury Lounge. And that’s the impetus for this blog post.

I know I’m biased because Scott and I go back and I think he’s a hell of a musician, but – then again – I guess every part of this Meet Our Friends series is partial by nature and I’m cool with that. I really mean it when I say that MEM is doing some awesome things. Their show was seriously fantastic. Not only are these guys top-notch musicians, they really know how to entertain. When I caught them at Mercury, they were working with a videographer who projected images behind them that perfectly fit their music. It really was a sight to behold. If you live in the North East I’d definitely recommend checking out their tour calendar to see they’re coming to your neck of the woods.

If you don’t, you can still click the below image to stream their music on the internets. Definitely check out the first tune, “Hologram,” that was my favorite from the live show and I’m glad to see that they have a live recording of it up. Check out those harmonies! They are seriously tasty.

altHope this finds you feeling healthy!
