"Bamm Holt is ready"

Mi neva waan people hear mi song dem an' sey, 'A John Holt grandson dat an' him soun' suh?!' Right now, mi ready fi di world,” he declared.

Bamm Holt, whose sound is a mix of reggae and hip hop, is scheduled to launch his music career on Friday with Money Problems, a song produced by Alan Ulisses from Spain.

“Mi glad to finally get it out. Wi making different music, something dat people can look forward to listening,” he said.

One Thing is another song Holt hopes to release soon. Produced by Gold And Goals Productions, it and Money Problems are included on Bolt, his EP, which is scheduled for release in November.

The Spanish Town-reared Bamm Holt (born Scwayne Holt) refers to his sound as reggae-fusion. It is a hybrid inspired by his roots as grandson of John Holt, a reggae giant, and his father Junior Holt. The hip hop-driven beats he heard while living in New York can also be heard on the two lead singles.

While Jay-Z and Nas are among his biggest influences, the 27-year-old artiste points to his grandfather as the teacher who guided him when he began mulling a music career. - Jamaica Observer

"Bamm Holt"

While many offsprings or siblings of famous entertainers would be quick to use their family connections to come up in the industry, Bamm Holt prefers the opposite. The 27-year-old is a grandson of the late reggae singer John Holt. He has his sights firmly set on a career in the music industry but refuses to piggyback on his grandfather's legacy.

In an interview with THE STAR, the entertainer whose birth name is Scwayne Holt, revealed that he values his own right of passage so much that he drops the Holt name altogether when approaching people about business. "I basically had to train myself how to open doors without using the Holt name. I just tell people my name is Bamm and let the music speak for itself," he said. "I tend to want to get myself through the door and then later down the line, you figure out who I am. My individuality is very important to me."

Speaking of individuality, Bamm revealed that one of the most difficult things he has had to overcome on his musical journey is people's expectations of him. He expressed that because of his grandfather's legacy, people expect him to sound like him, look like him and bring the same messages.

"My kind of music is reggae fusion. I will forever have reggae in my work, but I'm a third-generation Holt, I can't be sounding like I'm from the '60s. I mix reggae and hip hop to create my own sound," he said.

Bamm is currently promoting his single, Money Problems, a track he says can speak to everyone, which is something he hopes to do with all his songs. "It's a song that everybody can relate to because everybody has had money issues at some point in their lives. I don't speak about nothing I haven't been through, because I want to be able to connect with people in a very real way. If I can touch people's lives with every song, I would have achieved what I set out to and would have added to my family's legacy." - STAR MAGAZINE

"John Holt's Grandson Ready To Chart His Own Course"

Scwayne Holt, grandson of the late John Holt, says he is well aware of the musical shoes he will have to fill, and while he is ready to carry on the family legacy, he is keen on doing, things his own way.

The 27-year-old who goes by the stage name Bamm Holt, says that while his last name opens doors in the industry, he is not looking for a free pass. “I would feel pressure not coming from that kind of family and having to try come up out of nowhere. Being born into a musical family is a blessing to me. I got a step ahead, a one foot forward and I consider that headstart a blessing,” he said. “But, I’m not looking a free pass in music. I want to make my own way. While I’m not going to take that last name out of the mix, I’m not gonna make it the main focus.”

“Being the grandson of someone like John Holt, everybody has their own ideas of how you should look, how you should sound. Everybody is thinking that because I’m his grandson, I’m going to be doing reggae music or singing rock steady. I mix reggae with hip hop, and people hear that, and it’s kinda hard for them to accept it. But that is me, and that is who I will bring to the people. I am my own person. I will be keeping my grandfather’s legacy alive, but I will have my own,” he continued.

The entertainer told The Gleaner that although his mind is set on having a serious career, 10 years ago, he wasn’t actively pursuing music. “I been doing music for over 10 years now, but I didn’t really start taking it serious until about five years ago. For the first five of those 10 years, I was practising. I was trying to find my own sound, and I finally found it,” he said. “I am ready now to go all out, and I believe I have what it takes to really go far in this industry.”

Holt is currently promoting the track Money Problems. He believes the song has potential to attract the attention he needs to get people in tune with his music. Listing his grandfather among his biggest inspirations, the entertainer hopes to make him proud. “His influence to this day, even though he’s not here, is very much present. I feel like he’d be talking to me sometimes. I really want to make him proud.”

John Kenneth Holt came to prominence as lead singer of the group The Paragons before leaving to focus on his solo career in the 1970s. His song Stick by Me was, perhaps, Holt’s biggest success, and in 1972, it went on to become the biggest-selling Jamaican record for that year. He passed away in October 2014 after battling ill health for some time. - Jamaica Gleaner

Volts of Musical Excellence from the Royal Holt bloodline

Bamm Holt was born to Jamaican Parents Junior and Shawn in Spanish Town Jamaica, January 16, 1992.

Raised in the rugged, vibrant streets of  the ghetto his uncle’s sound system gave him an outlet for creative expression at the tender age of 6. His first notes on the microphone were from his grandfather’s Stealing Stealing. Since then his love for music has blossomed with the influence of his legendary grandfather, John Holt and his father, Junior Holt.

Now residing in Florida, Bamm Holt has built up a loyal following and listenership for his music that can best be described as “Reggae Fusion”. His track list includes the reflective and penetrative “Realize”, released in 2020 and the hustler’s anthem “Jailhouse” released in 2021.

With 1 EP under his belt - Realize - he is set to release his first album titled Voltz of Holt, a collaborative project with his father, Junior Holt.

Set for a Summer 2021 release, the album includes remakes of John Holt Classics Police in Helicopter, Wildfire (the chart topping collaboration between John Holt and Dennis Brown) and Hooligan as well as new titles Heartbreaking Lover and Right Here With You.
