The Heart of the Matter

So, I've said it before, and I'll say it again....for me to really connect with a song, it has to be ABOUT something.  So, the Black Eyed Peas can write a whole song about what a great night tonight is gonna be.  That's fine, but it's kind of a song about nothing.  Where's the emotion, where's the story...where's the....connection?  Now, there's always been music like that.  Bubble gum pop.  And there most likely will always be a place for that kind of stuff.  But what is bubble gum?  A great, tasty little distraction that you spit out after the flavor is gone, which isn't a very long time.  And soooo much of today's music is exactly that.  A temporary sugar rush, with no lasting satisfaction or fulfillment.  So, let me tell you about one song that I truly wish I had written...
