"Cones of Uncertainty - Certainly Rock"

"On stage or in the studio, the sounds are never predictable. "When we're writing, we try to forge ahead and go into new territory," Tancil said. "The band name fits our mentality that we like to keep things uncertain." So far, the band has released just a few songs on its Reverb Nation page. Among those songs is "Ballad of the Bully," which, unlike recent songs about bullying, comes from the point of the view of the bully. The song is dark, furious, funny and no-frills good rock. There's also "Chuck Jones Bull," a sort of ode to Looney Tunes animator Chuck Jones, as well a song about Tancil's personal experience, walking down an alley in New Orleans. One thing leads to another, and that's how the band operates, Gargano said. "With a lot of our songs, it'll start with one little snippet, then it expands," Gargano said. "The feeling of the sounds we're making makes us think of something, and that gets the ball rolling." "

"Fest Focus: Cones of Uncertainty"

One of the biggest surprises to be featured on this year’s lineup is local earsplitting badasses Cones of Uncertainty — surprising because the band is perhaps more suited to a dank, smoky bar than the middle of the day in the great outdoors. But hey, that’s why we love Festival.

Fusing together traditional rock music with elements of jazz, punk and psychedelia, Cones of Uncertainty are perhaps the most explosive hidden gem to be found in Lafayette. The band takes its name from the projected path of hurricanes that often strike fear in the hearts of locals. It’s oddly fitting, as like the chaos and power of a hurricane, their music has the ability to shake a person to their core and destroy all preconceived notions of normalcy. It’s truly a spectacle that cannot be missed if you are looking for something a little freaky on the lineup this year. Don’t be too afraid however. Their sound may be brash to some, but it is a structured, calculated impressive thrust of musical energy. Just leave your grandma at the Fais-Do-Do stage. Embrace the darkness, and enter the Cones of Uncertainty.

Cones of Uncertainty will be performing on the LUS LA Craft Biergarden stage from 12:45-1:45 p.m. on April 26. - The Independent

Bio

Cones of Uncertainty are a quintent from Lafayette Louisiana that bring together sounds and textures of punk with a mixture of post rock and psychedelia. Their music lyrically and sonically transports you from outer space to the streets of New Orleans in an absinthe induced haze. The band’s name is derived from the projected path of hurricanes that often brings uncertain levels of destruction and fear to the Southern Louisiana city they call home. The band formed in 2011 and consists of Jimmy Tancill (guitar, vocals), John Gargano (drums, vocals), Mikey Chouest (keyboards, guitar, saxophone, drums), Hadley Fuller (vocals, violin, keyboards), and Josh Allen (bass, vocals).
