Alice in Chains, the legendary grunge band from Seattle requested to have Contracorriente as supporting act on their most recent tour in Peru. Bio
Formed in Lima Peru in the late nineties, Contracorriente started playing as an Old School Punk Rock band. After several line up changes they released their first album "Contracorriente" (2001) and that was the beginning. Then came a live album "Contra Todo" (2003) recorded at the Lawn Tennis Club Stadium in Lima, "Honor y Rebeldia" (2004) and "Conectado" (2005). Also came the release of "1995-2005" (2006), a DVD documentary about the history and evolution of the band and the Peruvian rock scene. The video also has rare footage of old concerts, promo videos and some Peruvian TV appearances.
The band has played hundreds of shows and tours all over Peru and shared stage with many major artists like the legendary Iron Maiden (UK), Alice in Chains (USA), Sepultura (Brasil), Zucchero (ITA), and Latin American stars like Rata Blanca (Arg), A.N.I.M.A.L.(Arg), among many others, playing in front of thousands of people with great success.
Their most recent achievement was participating at "White Nights of St. Petersburg", one of the most important International Music Festivals in Europe, where the band won the top award "Grand Prix Prize", performing in front of more than 12000 people, and millions more at their homes on a Russian National TV live broadcast. After this, the Country Image government agency of Peru named them "Bearers of Brand Peru".
Their newest album "Contra el Tiempo" (2013) was recently released and received praise from specialized and commercial media as well as fans, taking the band to be nominated as "Group of the Year" by "El Comercio". The most important newspaper in the country. Also the new album first 2 singles "Aniquilar" and "Necesitado" got rotation on MTV Latin America and other international media.
The music style of the band nowadays is a very special blend of Rock n Roll, with twin guitars, big drums and a very energetic live show that has become famous in their country. Lyrics are about youth angst, respect and things that happen in people's everyday life.
Contracorriente plays most major rock festivals in their region, and remains to be a unique style band.
