"LISTEN: Dallas' Daisy Add British Influences to New Single "Get Well Soon""

Based in Dallas, Texas Daisy formed in 2014 with Will Rakkar on guitar and keys, Sam Culp on bass, Travis Goode on drums, and Matt Harness and Mason Jewett on guitar. With Rakkar, Culp, Harness, and Jewett taking turns on vocals, Daisy are currently in the process of writing their debut EP. Drawing their influences from the likes of Tame Impala, Wilco, and Radiohead, Daisy’s songs to date can best be characterized as indie meets surf rock or “psychedelic pop rock” as the band themselves prefer.

The band’s latest single, “Get Well Soon”, takes a slightly different turn from the format found on their Reverb Nation page adding in more 90s Britpop influences. This isn’t a surprise given Rakkar’s close familial ties to the United Kingdom. A self proclaimed animal lover, Rakkar has slowly progressed from pescatarian in 2011 to vegetarian in 2012. For him, the results have been more beneficial to the environment and less harmful on his body.

While the band’s Facebook page cite the usual British influences like Blur and Radiohead, hardcore Anglophiles might be more impressed to know that “Get Well Soon” is more Mansun influenced than anything. The song alternates between a light, floating verse by Rakkar and a punchy, pop chorus by Jewett. Most noticeable are Rakkar’s keyboard lines which tend to float right above the rest of the music in a manner that adds texture and layers without being overpowering. These are further accentuated by Culp’s smooth basslines. “Get Well Soon” lays a strong foundation for a promising young band that hopefully they will continue to build upon.

Daisy will debut “Get Well Soon” at their single release show on July 16, 2016 at Live Oak Music Hall in Fort Worth, Texas where they will play alongside Wesley Gieger, Dot Steezy, and R!U!O!K! “Get Well Soon” will also be available for purchase on vinyl. Follow the band’s Facebook page for updates.

"New Music Monday Picks for August 1"

“Get Well Soon,” the surf-infused debut single from Dallas five-piece Daisy, has an air of sophistication about it that pulls you right in. With its perfect endless summer vibe (imagine Los Straitjackets making an album with Kevin Parker from Tame Impala), it’s almost enough to make you forget that you could cook an entire breakfast on the sidewalk outside. Keep an eye out for a series of digital and vinyl singles landing this fall, and see them supporting Rookie of the Year at the Prophet Bar on August 11. - KXT 91.7 (NPR)
