"An Appealing Odd Ramble - NPR"

Daniel Trudeau, a.k.a. Pregnant, and his partner Jocelyn Noir, who performs under the stage name ALAK, recently left their home in Placerville, Calif., for a joint U.S. tour that doubled as a high-concept family vacation for the young couple and their newborn daughter. "Along the way," explains a Kickstarter project page soliciting funds to buy an RV, "we'll be dipping our daughter's hands in paint and pressing them against certain buildings and monuments, therefore making a 'memory map' for our daughter with the hopes of her following it later in her life."

Whether you find the idea charming or cloying (or both) could be a barometer for your reaction to Trudeau's defiantly quirky, homebrewed folk-electronica. "Letter to a Friend" begins with a bed of twinkly, chintzy trip-hop that builds into a warm, finger-picked acoustic melody. Then there's Trudeau's voice, which sounds — in the most complimentary sense possible — like Kermit the Frog moonlighting as a sensitive indie rocker.

Implausibly, it works. Like most of Trudeau's simple but meticulous loop-based compositions, "Letter to a Friend" rambles along appealingly without going anywhere in particular. It channels a twee fascination with the small things into a kind of spacey, small-town Zen, as odd as it is disarmingly pleasant. - NPR (National Public Radio)

"FEATURE/ PREGNANT: rebel"

I first came across Placerville’s Pregnant AKA Daniel Trudeau when I initially began attending Acrobatics Everyday shows at UC Irvine. When I saw the Liquidation of Swans tape on the merch table of Life’s Blood, I was struck by how confusing the album artwork was. However, it wasn’t until the winter of 2010 that I actually checked out Pregnant’s music online and after listening to a few songs, I knew I had to set up an interview with him. We kept in contact for a couple of months and finally set a date for a GChat interview. A few weeks later, Trudeau was down in Los Angeles with his family for his mother’s birthday. While in town, he played a show at Origami Vinyl and did a dublab session. We met right after his session and snapped photos for a grand total of 5 minutes; quite an amazing feat.

In the following interview, you will find that Daniel Trudeau is a very, very busy man. He’s currently balancing his musical endeavors with fatherhood and working full-time. Luckily, Trudeau can write and record songs at an incredibly rapid rate. Just recently, he released an album through Life’s Blood entitled Regional Music to much critical acclaim. Trudeau also has another album lined up called LIFE HARD: I TRY coming out soon through Terroreyes.tv.

Brian Vu: Dude, so how old is your daughter?
Daniel Trudeau: She is 7 months now. She just learned how to wave.
B: Whoa! That’s awesome. What is it like trying to balance everything at once?
D: Yeah, it’s a really rewarding experience, but it’s really hard also. I have such an insane schedule man, insane!!! I don’t tell the different parties what I do with the cooperative part of my life so they have no idea. My work doesn’t even know that I play music. My music buds usually have no idea that I’m a father working 5 days a week. It’s a double life, but it keeps me very busy. - rebel magazine

Bio

Pregnant is the musical pipe works of once described hillbilly savant Daniel Trudeau, an intriguing producer, visual artist, musician, and father hailing from the Sierra Nevada Foothills and Sacramento Valley of Northern California. Pairing a sweet vocal style reminiscent of Neil Young with a swelling collage of electronics, foot pedals, guitars and even saxophone, Pregnant’s whimsical and DIY vibes are dream-worthy. Raising a family in Placerville, CA  brings inspiration to the all aspects of his music, as the lyrics and instrumentation work together to capture a feeling of modern isolation, personal struggle, and self-discovery. After a rapid succession of limited edition releases that helped refine and perfect his sound, Pregnant's Mush debut, Life Hard : I Try fulfills the promise of his earlier work without losing any of the risk-taking genre mixing that makes his music so unique. Pregnant's willingness to combine traditional songwriting, pure vocals, and warped experimentation mark him as an act to watch.
