David Hurlin is known for his ruthless energy, gnashing of teeth, and mind-numbing dynamic range; from his barely audible Wal-Mart dusters to his thunderous tribal mallet romp parade, Hurlin rakes the whole spectrum of human emotion, like panning a river full of gold nuggets.
David has honed, and is continually in the process of honing his wildly eclectic style. He has toured the midwest with his free-funk jazz trio The Apocalypso Tantric Boys Choir of Memphis. Parallel to the Boys Choir Hurlin co-founded, funk band Spermwhale where he got into hip-hop, didgridoo, Reeds Ginger Brew, early monrning Kung-Fu, singing rounds, and tabla.
After graduating from Maharishi University of Mangament with a BFA in photography and a minor in the Indian Classical Music known as Gandharva Veda, David moved to New Delhi where he continued his studies of tabla with his Guru, Anup Ghoshji. In 2007 Anupji and David performed together for the first time in a riveting drumset v. tabla battle.
After the birth of his son Dil Mondrian Hurlin, David joined the Jefferson County Green Band and toured the midwest again, playing biker rallies, casinos, racetracks, riverside bars, and festivals getting schooled in his local hillbilly culture and developing a fierce Folsom Prison train chug, and a showstopping hard hat drum solo.
