"Interview With Singer, Songwriter, and Musician, Destiny"

Tell us about your music!

"I’m a singer/songwriter/musician and beginning producer. I’m 20 years old from Malibu, California. Before the end of my High School senior year, I was signed by Burnett Music Group. My two debut music videos are now on VEVO, Youtube, and all major digital outlets. They are EDM/Pop/Top 40. I also started a remix contest for my song “Time” with a $1000 USD grand prize! It’s very exciting to already have gotten submissions from over 100 countries. The contest ends May 1st so I invite you all to submit and hear all the awesome remixes! Stay posted for my tour, Elements of Life, scheduled for this year 2015!"

What do you like most about your profession?
"My favorite part of my profession is performing live- whether it’s for a small group of friends or a large crowd. Something magical happens when the lyrics, tempo and instruments bring the audience closer to themselves, each other and with me. It’s like the universe is harmonizing perfectly in that moment all through one common language – music. It’s the most peaceful and at the same time- exhilarating feeling in the world. Love it!"

What’s your favorite album from another artist?
“It Won’t Be Soon Before Long” by Maroon 5 is my favorite album, but all their albums really resonate with me. “Songs About Jane” is also a classic in my opinion. I literally can play all their albums on shuffle exclusively for a couple of days at a time!"

What song of yours are you most proud of?
"I’ve written over 100 songs in multiple genres and they all have their place in my heart. Some are spiritual, some are fun and dancey, some ease the pain when love hurts. But, if I had to pick one song, that I would like everyone to hear because I was the most proud of, it would be my unreleased song, “Out of the Shadows”.

What is the formula for your success in the music industry?
"I make it a point to enjoy what I do every day! And besides a routine that includes prayer, exercise and following a daily schedule, I remind myself to stay true to my music and savor every part of the journey". - Nora Gouma

DestinyDestiny was destined for greatness when she first debut her talented voice at the age of 5. She performed on Univision for a televised performance for the 9/11 victims. Throughout the years, Destiny has released numerous songs on Itunes. At 11 years old, many girls are hanging out with their friends and having sleepovers. She traded in her sleepless nights with friends to sleepless nights in the studio. All that hard work has paid off because during that year, she ended up releasing 5 self-written songs on Itunes and she did not stop there.

Destiny new she wanted to follow in her mother’s footsteps and make her music her own. She has written over 125 songs at the age of 19, so with her recent debut of her new hit single “Sweet Dreams” on the premiere of TLC’s show “Answered Prayers”. She has proven to her fans that she isn’t just a rising star but a beautiful singer who uses her words to tell a story to people all over the world.

On Saturday, July 25th, MariahDeeTV met with Destiny to talk to her about her passion for music, writing songs and future endeavors.

Q: When did you start singing?

A: “I started when I was really young. I was 5 when I had my first televised performance. It was a tribute song to the 9/11 victims.”

“I originally started doing performances in the church and kept on performing.”

Q: When did you realize you wanted to pursue a music career?

A: “My mom is a singer and I got a lot of insight from her. She has toured with Ricky Martin and Enrique Iglesias and made a couple of number 1 hits. I learned a lot about the music industry from her. Her and my dad had me take guitar class and then I learned how to write a song when I was about 10 years old. I was always writing and playing guitar.”

“I am out of high school but it is a very theatrical school and everyone is in the industry and this is what they want to do. It was really encouraging to me because I was in an atmosphere where everyone wanted to do art. I got most musical when I was in high school and received a lot of support from my classmates and community.”

Q: What artist would you like to open for?

A: “Maroon 5. I am a huge Adam Levine fan! That would be my life goal.”

Q: When writing over 125 songs for many different genres. What inspires you?

A: “I am 19 so I go through having crushes, break ups and life experiences. I am a Christian and I write Christian music so for me that always soothing for me. Life is very interesting so there is a lot to write about.”

Q: What were your thoughts when you received the call from Burnett Music Group?

A: “It was very exciting! I actually attended school with James Burnett. We connected and many of us would hang out and jam. He saw that I have a lot of songs and won contest at our high school. He said “Hey, I love your music and I want everyone to hear your song”. He signed me as one if his first music songwriters.”

Q: What hidden talents do you have?

A: “I can lick my elbow. Not that many people can do that.”

Q: What advice would you give other music artist who are starting in the music industry?

A: “My advice would be. If you’re doing what you love, give it 110% and always keep striving. See where you can improve and keep connected with your fans while releasing and making music.”

“Never give up in what you’re doing because if you giving it 110%, eventually it will come back to you”.

Q: You recently released your new music video called “Time”. Where you apart of the creative process?

A: “We worked with the director for about six months. We thought about going syfy and many other different concepts and ideas. We decided to do something that people can relate to, which is relationships. We filmed it in Malibu and it was the best four days of my life!”

Q: Who are your top three artist?

A: “Maroon 5, Beyonce’ and Rihanna. I think theatrically and musically they are on point. I love fun music but I really love emotionally music too, such as Adele and Sam Smith.”

Q: What makes you the next Rising Star?

A: “I would love to beg the next rising star but my main purpose for me is not for everybody to know who I am but to share my music with as many people as I can.”

“Being a singer, songwriter and music and working with the Burnett’s. I feel like God is leading me in every step of the way and I believe that there are going to be some big things happening.”

Q: What up-coming project or performances do you have this year?

A: “Yes, I have the song premiering on TLC. I will be performing at The Viper Room in Hollywood on August 5th and have other shows coming up. We are planning out a tour right now. I want to keep having material coming out so new songs and music videos.”
