Bio

D.Fresh was born as Douglas Brent on January 11, 1986 in Louisville,
Kentucky. It was high school where Doug's rap talent would become
obvious and his lyrical skills would develop. Doug would rap with his
friends at lunchtime everyday while fellow friends and students listened
in. He'd grown up with the likes of classics such as Aretha Franklin
and Patti LaBelle due to his mother's preference in music. However, he
held a love for rap and hip hop that most couldn't comprehend and every
since the first listen of Lil Kim's LP, his future was clear to him.
When
Doug was 16, he entered a rap battle at a local clun and won. DJ Q,
from Louisville's radio station B96.5, pulled him aside and pointed out
his obvious talent. He told Doug that he wanted to take him in as his
artist on a label he was looking to create called Sluggah Entertainment
as mentor.
With Q, Sluggah Entertainment, and a close knit support
team filled with friends and family, Doug released three official
mixtapes: Birth Of A Star Vol. 1 (2005); Birth Of A Star Vol. 2 (2007);
and #1 Draft Pick (2009) which was hosted by the well known DJ Drama. In
between tapes, Doug was featured in magazines, heard on the radio,
featured on songs by other artists, and performed at numerous occasions.
He opened up for several mainstream artists including Jadakiss, State
Property, T.I., Master P, and Jeremih.
In 2011, D.Fresh started a clothing line titled, "Fresh Is Back"®, in
promotion for his most recent mixtape titled the same. Against his
original expectations, the clothing line inflamed with popularity. He
creates several styles of clothing for both women and men that are
imprinted with the phrase "Fresh Is Back"® and sells them hand to hand
himself. Like the clothing line, his mixtape has proven to be a fan
favorite. The most sense of accomplishment, however, was that the
mixtape was done essentially on his own. With the new absence of support
and assistance from Q, his long time studio engineer, and the loss of
several allies, D.Fresh managed to record, assemble, and release the
'Fresh Is Back' mixtape with nothing short of unmatchable.
Shortly
after the release of the mixtape, D.Fresh would face his largest
challenge yet. On March 13, 2012, he went under a total hip replacement
surgery, at the age of 26. It was determined that he had been born with
hip dysplasia and the only solution was to replace his whole hip.
Although it was a difficult obstacle, D.Fresh proved that he couldn’t be
stopped and turned every last bit of the struggle into a form of
motivation. With a record fast recovery, still feeding off the high from
the 'Fresh Is Back' success and the support from a close knit group,
D.Fresh is back on track. With the recent release of 'Fresh Is Back Vol
1.5', 'No Days Off' and 'I Be Back in 4 Days' mixtapes, there is high
anticipation for an upcoming album, expected to release very soon. Most
importantly, D. Fresh is the strongest he has ever been both physically
and mentally, and this is just the beginning.
