"22 OCTOBER 2014"

"Knotts Landing: Ostensibly centered in South Carolina, Donny Knottsville (aka Walter Kovax, aka Malcolm Walters, aka Rorshak) can still call Athens home any time he wants. His resume as an MC with Deaf Judges and Mad Axes is unimpeachable, and his new mixture, Brainiac Frankenstein, gets a lot of his old crew back together. It was engineered and mixed by Joel Hatstat, features appearances from SOHI, Louie Larceny, a beat from Cubenza (ex-Old White Women, Deaf Judges) and even two tracks with Monsoon's Sienna Chandler. The album is catchy, well crafted, kinda silly at times and kinda dirty at others. Certain tracks are undeniable cruisers (“Gospel Pussy Mellinnium Tent Revival” [sic], “Mad Illin'”—which features a sample of Madeline's “Tie One On”—and “Hammer Games”), while others take a minute to get into (“Blood Meridian” and the not-really-all-that-good “Rock & Roll Party”). All in all, though, it's a totally fun, completely un-self-conscious record and should be a welcome spin in any vehicle with four wheels. Check it at donnyknottsville." - Published by Flagpole Written by Gordan Lamb

"20 APRIL 2015"

"To say that Athens/South Carolina rapper Donny Knottsville (formerly of Classic City hip hop crews Deaf Judges and Mad Axes) is prolific is to understate his output over the past several months.

First, in October 2014, he hit us with Brainiac Frankenstein, a solid selection of DIY-backpacker jams that featured Athens musicians like Monsoon's Sienna Chandler and Knottsville's former partner in crime, Louie Larceny. In March, he dropped Red Dirt White Light, a sneering, low-end heavy follow-up.

Nearly lost in the shuffle was Hoof Beats, a February mixtape that featured Knottsville rapping over a backdrop consisting entirely of samples taken from the songs of the great Bay Area avant-rock group Deerhoof.

The band recently took to Twitter to congratulate Knottsville on a job well done:

Bio

Donny Knottsville is a South Carolina rapper who traffics in lyrical explorations of the surreal, the absurd and the obscure. Struck by lightening during a childhood fishing trip, Donny spent his formative years working as a janitor while studying liberal arts part-time at a local community college. After being unexpectedly laid off from his janitorial position, Knottsville began selling homemade candles and assorted crafts at regional flea markets while making rap music as an inspired sideline. A string of mixtapes soon followed, presenting Donny Knottsville in a diverse array of musical settings, from Trap and EDM to classic soul samples over boom-bap drums, to more esoteric projects like his latest release; a mixtape of tracks constructed entirely from samples of the experimental rock group Deerhoof called "Hoof Beats". Currently Donny is taking some time away from the flea market craft scene to pursue his rap and potential acting careers as well as newfound hobbies such as bee keeping and badminton.
