About DubConscious
Athens, Georgia
Reggae
Since DubConscious' inception in 2002, this dub reggae collective out of Athens, GA has created and maintained their place on the cusp of solution-based philosophy, social and environmental awareness, and the evolution of today's music. They are dedicated to spreading the word on sustainability, unity, and a greater understanding of the human experience through their music, their distinctive line of organic merchandise, and through being involved with such organizations as Rock Against Cancer, Wiser Earth, Hands On Atlanta, Rock The Earth, Riverkeeper, Headcount, and Sustainable Waves. Their unique musical style pays homage to such world music icons as Bob Marley, Burning Spear, Lee Perry, Fela Kuti and King Tubby, while incorporating newer influences of musical pioneers like Thievery Corporation and Sound Tribe Sector Nine.
DubConscious have developed solid roots in the fertile music cradle of the southeast, and have since branched out. They have been performing to impressed audiences throughout the country at such festivals as Bonnaroo, Reggae On the Rocks, 10,000 Lakes Festival, Wakarusa, Langerado, Echo Project, High Sierra, and Joshua Tree Music Festival. Whether they are opening for Michael Franti and Spearhead, Galactic, Burning Spear, Steel Pulse, Ziggy Marley, JJ Grey & Mofro, or Sound Tribe Sector Nine, or fans are enjoying an evening with, DubConscious deliver a positive and energetic live experience sure to move the feet as well as the mind. They have been featured and praised in a variety of media including BobMarley.com, JamBase, XM radio, NPR, MTV.com, and have been awarded Athens, GA's esteemed Flagpole Music Award for "Best World Music" every year since 2005. January 20th 2009 marked the release of their 5th and newest studio release titled 'NonViolent'. Recorded at Tree Sound Studios with Grammy Award winner Robert Hannon (Engineer, Album of the Year, Outkast - Speakerboxxx/The Love Below), NonViolent is the bands most accomplished work to date. Although, the band is currently in the studio hard a work on a followup release. 2.r, a winding instrumental epic is slated for release on 1320 Records winter 2010 followed by a 7 song EP in the Spring of 2010. DubConscious' genuinely inspiring performances, coupled with their studio recordings, successfully harness the energy and powerful nature of the genres they exemplify, as well as ensure their indelible mark on social, conscious, and musical evolution for years to come. Doing their part to help change the world the band is planning a green release in February 2009 with a digital and hard copy of the album. Sans plastic wrap, packaged with recycled cardboard, printed with soy based ink, the CD is a reflection of the band's purest intentions. For those more tech-savvy, the album can be downloaded through iTunes, or purchased at the show in the form of what the band calls a "seed card." It's the size of a postcard, comes decorated with album art, printed with a download code, and after downloading the music can be planted to grow flowers or a tree. DubConscious is actively seeking like minded organizations to align with and welcome at shows just about any peaceful organization that would like to set up/share a table for raising awareness for their cause. |
