Today I speak to Erich and Becky about the band.
Due to Covid, Dystopica has not had the opportunity to perform live shows yet as a band. However, all the members have performed live in previous bands. Guitarist Rob Muller has performed with previous bands at numerous venues including The Chance Theater in Poughkeepsie, NY and has opened for several well-known bands including Warbringer, Dying Fetus, Kittie, Enforcer, Moonspell, and Cattle Decapitation. Drummer Erich Bender has performed with a previous band at multiple local venues in CT including the Webster Underground in Hartford, CT. Vocalist Becky Brideau has performed with a previous band playing at local festivals and venues in CT including the Toyota Oakdale Theater in Wallingford, CT at a Live Nation event. As a band Dystopica is planning on performing live shows starting in the fall of 2022. - Cheap Heat Productions

"Dystopica releases new single as they look to expand their fanbase. We think you should give them a listen!!!"

"Connecticut is not your typical hotbed for rock music. Performers such as The Carpenters (Karen and Richard), Michael Bolton, and drummer, Jeff Porcaro (TOTO) are just a few that come to mind.

Dystopica, a three-piece heavy metal band that calls the ‘Constitution State’ home. Lead vocalist, Becky Brideau, founded the band in 2019. Joining Brideau is Rob Muller on guitars, and Erich Bender, the man behind the kit. The trio are very adept to mixing heavy metal, hard rock, and progressive metal into a sound all their own.
COVID hit just before the band was scheduled to play some live shows but those were cancelled due to the pandemic. Dystopica used the time to fine tune their sound. Having performed with several local bands prior to their startup, they should have no issues hitting the road and becoming successful when they finally are able to do so.

Dystopica recently released the newest single “You Can’t Look Away This Time” from their independent EP entitled Perception. The copulation is an amazing piece of work and deserves a chance at becoming a part of your library. Brideau is brilliant with her vocals while Muller and Bender are amazing with their tools of choice." - Larry Ritter - Rock Lines Magazine

"Dystopica - 'Perception'"

"'Perception' - the debut EP from Dystopica - sees the Connecticut three-piece manage, with ease, to combine elements, both classic and contemporary, of heavy, thrash, and progressive metal, with a strong vocal delivery, mesmerizing guitar riffs, and lyrical content centered on the issues encountered in everyday life, as well as imperfection, to create six well-crafted tracks that all do a good job of hooking the listener in." - Zak Sloman - Muzak Review

"Dystopica – Perception (Self-Released)"

"Hailing from Trumbull, CT (a part of Fairfield County), Dystopica is a newcomer to the scene releasing their debut six-song EP Perception. Coming to my attention due to guitarist Robert Muller’s involvement (witnessing his work in melodic death/thrash act ROARGH! years back), the main trio of musicians along with session bass work from Jeff Curtiss create a sound that incorporates everything from melodic hard rock and straightforward heavy metal to progressive and thrash nuances.

There’s a sense of morose and melancholy nature to specific main riffs in combination with the delivery and range of vocalist Becky Brideau that brings about some gothic 90’s overtones a la Sentenced or Paradise Lost – filtered through an American metal lens. “Torn” fits in this category the most, the lead break from Robert a quick hitting affair that adds a bit of energy to the mid-tempo affair. Progressive accents occur from time to time in guitar runs or subtle tempo changes from drummer Erich Bender – allowing Becky to glide up and down her register with a bit more bite and attack to make “Broken” a personal favorite. Contrasts keep engagement at peak levels – the chugging, driving nature against more slightly off-time musical interplay during the final cut “Lost Within Myself” mesmerizing, taking elements of melodic death/thrash into commercial pastures – raining hooks and harmony aspects in key instrumental sequences. Even a bit of emo/power punk/grunge spirit penetrates opener “You Can’t Look Away This Time” in terms of the pounding vocal/music angles during the verses, while the lead break steers things back on the metal train.

Fusing aspects of classic heavy metal (Iron Maiden and Judas Priest), 90’s-era Metallica/Megadeth, and adding modern acts like Disturbed and Mastodon into their collective creative tank, Perception is a solid start for Dystopica to develop even further upon with future releases." - Matt Coe - Dead Rhetoric
