I’m honestly disappointed in myself for not coming across the alternative rootsy/rock group from the tristate Ellis Dodi any sooner. What is it about being vulnerable that we fear? Why are we such private creatures? We hold back our true self for the shadows of our unconscious. When on display, we are exposed & judged. Singer songwriter Ellis Dodi explores this concept in her new album "Exhibit". Bob Marley said, "being vulnerable is the only way to allow your heart to feel true pleasure..." and I think Ellis would agree.

Ellis Dodi believes true artistry is found in finding ones unique voice. In today's world we are constantly bombarded by the opinions and judgments of everyone around us. Thousands of voices clashing and clanging against each other can overshadow our own. In the last year of creating "Exhibit" Ellis wanted to silence those voices. "This album has allowed me the space to become more me. It's allowed me time to filter what is important and what is not. Artist are only as unique as the perspective they speak from, and I’m glad I found mine own."

Ellis had some help in finding this perspective. A year ago she met Chris Pinset of Mood recording in Dumbo. This was the start of a "beautiful collaboration". "Chris helped me break free musically. There are so many things that go into making an album. Composition, mastering, mixing and writing, coming together will determine how great your project can be. I'm lucky to have found the right team to show me how to navigate through this complex but fun experience. " Ellis time and again credits her band mates, engineers, photographers and videographer for making this not only a musical project, but also a real physical representation of her heart and soul.

When asked if this was “the one” album that would launch her among the stars she answered, "I think everything that we do as artist is a step closer to "the one". As long as you are taking the journey, there will never be a one, because each one is the one. Every time I write a song, I want to write it better than the song before. Every time I make a video, I want it to be better than any video I’ve done. Honestly we are becoming the one everyday of our lives. That's what growth is."

Ellis Dodi is set to hit the road in mid August for a 4-week tour. Until then you can catch her at bar nine on July 7th and other venues around New York with dates to come. This brave electric songwriter is sure to seep into the hearts of America really soon.
