"AMP Unsigned"

"During their first year of existence, EVERY YOU was named one of Pure Volume's Top 20 Unsigned Bands of 2009. Since then, the band has done three tours and been names Absolutepunk.net's Top 100 Bands. See a pattern here? EVERY YOU play the kind of alternative rock anyone can get into, so it's no surprise that the band has been appraised so much in the last year and half. Their EP, A Change Of Scene, was one of the best releases of the past year , and it was their debut! Coming this summer, EVERY YOU will be going on tour with THIEVES & VILLAINS and then I CALL FIVES in July for a full U.S. Tour. Don't be a fool and miss out on discovering these guys before they go big. (N. Lay)" - AMP Magazine Issue #103

"A Change Of Scene Album Review"

Value priced at only $6 and for fans of Go Radio and The Dangerous Summer I couldn't resist giving this a listen. Every You hailing from Fort Lauderdale, Florida which isn't to far from home for me have probably one of the standout EP's I've listened to this summer. The opening track catches you quickly and pulls you in for something different in this cookie cutter filled genre. Vocalist Matt doesn't have the same generic high pitched whiny voice. Vocally the album reminds me of either Jason Lancaster or a more raw kinda folk punk approach. Picture Against Me. Which I definitely enjoy as with his catchy lyrics and the bands mix of mainstream rock/poppunk make it all flow together for something totally different. Standout tracks on this album include A Change Of Scene, Piece Of Mind, and my personal favorite On The Other Side. Lyrically this album is genius in my opinion. For such a young band they show great maturity in their song writing. Might I emphasize more on the fact this isn't cookie cutter poppunk like everything else that's coming out. Fans of the cookie cutter stuff may dig this EP but if your looking for something different, I highly suggest you check out Every You's - A Change Of Scene EP it'll give you something to look forward to in this washed up genre. I give this ep a 4/5. There score major points for Originality. Watch out Go Radio, Every You can be and will be the next big thing out of Florida.

"Absolutepunk.net Album Review"

Every You – A Change of Scene EP
Record Label: Unsigned
Release Date: Late Summer 2009

“You’ve got your hands around my neck / And this mattress is our canvas / Where we spill our guts / So we can stand this” are actual lyrics from the A Change of Scene EP. The image swirling around my brain is both disgusting and endearing. You’re savvy enough, so it seems redundant to point out that such a line must be delivered in just the right way. Otherwise it comes across like every emo cliché we see on local Midwest newscasts. Matt Burns and Co. deftly maneuver themselves right around all these trite minefields with orgcore-ish vocals and a nice little stutter step from drummer Danny Butler. This scenario comes up time and time again for Every You, and they always seem to make their less than original formula more than just somewhat interesting. Don’t feign snobbishness; we can all hear your toe tapping from here.

Not that you care, but Every You are inking a record deal right this second. A Tweet is being prepared as you pretend to read this while only looking at the score: “Hot Bobby Jones we don’t have to wear Rockitt T-Shirts anymore! Thanks Hopeless Records!” In fact, that Tweet (what’s the past tense of Tweet?) could be this whole review. Every You’s rougher version of pop-punk uses the melodic personal insights of The Dangerous Summer and the louder personal insights of Fallen From The Sky to forge a path just interesting enough to work. But like I say, you won’t ever feel lost. “A Change of Scene” pumps through in a radio-friendly shell until the gang vocals catch you off guard. “Piece of My Mind” is a bit more, ahem, thoughtful with lyrics like, “Wherever you may be / I fucking hope you’re listening.” Sounds pretty familiar, right?

And there I go again, making A Change of Scene sound terrible because it resembles something else. (For Christ’s sake, who am I to talk?) We all read constant lists toting that someone is “For Fans Of” or “Recommended If You Like” and they’re almost always crap. Feel confident in your decision to give Every You a chance if Just Surrender or The Dangerous Summer leave pleasant tastes in your mouth. “Homesick” uses the youthful moments of those bands in a little sloppier fashion, but that also makes it more sincere. If you’re 21 or younger (or if you have Asperger’s – kidding, FCC!), welcome to your life. Or rather, this is music for looking in the mirror. Don’t be embarrassed: we all do a little amateur modeling. It’s okay to take a glance here and there, but be warned if A Change of Scene is on in the background, because you’ll be planted for the whole 20 minutes. At least make sure you’re alone first.

Recommended If You Like: The Dangerous Summer, Just Surrender, what am i even talking about, You Me and Everyone We Know, *slap

"Absolute Top 100 Artists of 2009"

Every You - Fort Lauderdale, FL

Why We Like: One of our hotter staff members recently went on and on about Maryland's The Dangerous Summer. But after the band's check cleared (and was spent on tanning supplies/board shorts), said staff member felt a hole in his life. He found himself hooked on this style of pop-punk: big choruses sung by a voice that's just the right amount of brawny. It's not that Every You are just some snack to tide him over, though. The gang vocals in "A Change of Scene" or the gruff in "Homesick" make them a little tougher than TDS. Point is, this band saved that staff member from a meaningless life of one night stands and a pretty nasty type of skin cancer. So, I guess, thanks. I mean, he says thanks.

"Interview with ForTheSound.com"

Please state your name and what you do in the band

My name is Mike Shaffer, and I play Bass.

For someone who has never listened to your music, how would you describe your sound?

I would probably say that we have an alternative/pop-punk sound thats a bit more edgy than most.

Who are some of your musical influences?

This is always a really tough question for me to answer. To name a very short few, I would have to say Mayday Parade, Paramore, Taking Back Sunday, Brand New, NFG, Just Surrender, Blink 182, Hit The Lights… I could go on for days.

How did everyone in the band meet?

We all went to the same high school and were friends then and we kept in touch ever since through friends and playing shows together with our older bands that we were in.

You recently released an EP, how was working with Paul Leavitt?

It was such a great time. At first, it was a bit awkward, but once we started joking around and actually talking, he turned out to be a funny dude. Really cool to work with, too. He had a lot of great ideas and, in my opinion, made the record sound great. I just want to write another album to go work with him again lol.

What is your writing process like? Who does most of it?

Well, every song has to start out with a small idea, either a chorus or a bridge, or even just a short guitar riff. then we all jam on the idea and see what comes out. We all do a lot of writing, each of us have written most of at least one of the songs on the album. If I had to pick someone that does the most writing, it would be Matt, our singer (obv.).

How would you say your music has changed over the years?

Well, we haven’t even been a band for a year yet, but we all came from the same background of music prior to this band. I think we have matured, of course. Also, more recently, we’ve been trying to do something different. I’m tired of hearing the same cookie cutter pop/rock song over and over, and we tried very hard to be different than that. I hope we did it!

Where do you see your music going in the future?

Well, hopefully to the top of the top 40 charts! haha yeah right. I wish. But, I think we’re going to stay along the same lines of what our sound is now. Really, with only a 6 song E.P. out, I don’t think were ready for any kind of drastic change any time soon.

Are there any plans for a big tour coming up?

We try to plan a tour every other day, but unfortunately none have pulled through. We’re expecting to do some touring on the east coast December/January.

If you could tour with anyone, who would it be?

Hmm, thats a tough one. For some reason, I’m dying to do a tour with The Dangerous Summer, and Go Radio (Both are really great friends of ours and along the same lines genre wise.). But being a long time fan and now seeing that they are HUGE, Paramore would be my top pick.

What is the most exciting thing about being in a band?

I’m not quite sure what the most EXCITING thing is, but my FAVORITE thing about it is being able to touch other peoples lives and meet people. I LOVE meeting new people and making new friends. Being on tour is probably the most exciting part though. Waking up somewhere different every day, not knowing what’s going to happen from day to day, it’s the best thing ever!

Is there anything else you would like to add to your fans and the readers at For The Sound?

Thanks so much for giving us a chance. I know that there’s 10 million new bands coming out every day, and it gets annoying to hear about so many of them. So, I feel honored that you are interested in us. If there’s anything else you want to know, or anything, feel free to message us on myspace! I’ll reply, I promise!
