"Schwindy's indie music spotlight: FESTE"

(4/5 Stars)

Author's note: Allow me to editorialize for a moment before I get to my review. FESTE is a local band that reached out to me, and now the band is being featured here. The moral of the story is that if you have the gumption to reach out to me, the chances of me writing about you increase. Now on to my review of FESTE's EP Days of Vengeance.

One thing is apparent right from the beginning of "Terrors of the Sea". This is a band that - like rock bands of the 70s - is driven by heavy guitar riffs and pounding rhythms. The song also borrows from the 70s (particularly bands like Jethro Tull) in that it feels a bit like an epic set to music.

The next song on the EP is "Fink". This is a song that is ready for big venues filled with people all pumping their fists to the music. With the vocals, the rhythm (especially the drum fill), and the guitars, the song just feels big.

The title track is the last song on the EP and it is a groove-rock song (think along the lines of Molly Hatchet) that you will want to blare from the windows of your car.

This is a solid EP that is sure to be a hit with fans of the guitar-driven rock of the 70s. Listen to Days of Vengeance at the band's Soundcloud page. - Gary Schwind - Examiner.com

Bio

FESTE is a classic-rock-inspired band from Anaheim, CA; whose dark and gritty riff-based rock inspired by the likes of AC/DC, The Who, Foo Fighters, and Arctic Monkeys. Behind FESTE and their music are lead vocalist Tony Torrico, guitarist Charlie Magdaleno, drummer Carlos Macias, keyboardist Mark McCombs and bassist Chris Standifer.

In 2013, the band also raised over $5,700 on Kickstarter in order to fund the completion of their debut album, First Folio, which was released on August 20th, 2013. Regarding the record, UK music blog Sonic Abuse says, “The Shakespearian references are incorporated with wit and style and it is clear that the band’s name is well chosen…’First Folio’ is a treasure that deserves your undivided attention.”

Since their debut release, FESTE’s music has been featured on the NFL Network, The “Heidi & Frank Show” on 95.5fm KLOS, and the popular zombie podcast, “We’re Alive.” The band also performed at the Pomona stop of the 2013 VANS Warped tour. They’ve also performed throughout the Orange County and Los Angeles areas at venues including: the House of Blues (Sunset & Anaheim), the Viper Room, the Wayfarer, the Federal Underground, and the Slidebar.

FESTE opened up 2015 with the release of their follow up EP, “Days of Vengeance.” Gary Schwind of Examiner.com gave the record 4/5 stars, calling it “a solid EP that is sure to be a hit with fans of the guitar-driven rock of the 70’s.” The band is currently putting together a tour to support the EP, as well as working on their next full-length album.
