"Figure 8, the torch is yours"

Figure 8 is the last thing keeping punk rock alive amongst this generation. There would be no younger punk bands in this town if it weren't for them. - James Thomason(Boise Punk Rock Legend)

"July 7th The Queers, Figure 8, and Groggy Bikini"

"Figure 8 played right before the Queers. From the moment the first guitar chord was hit, you knew they weren't messing around. They went through a 30 minute set, in what seemed like a few minutes. The best part of their performance was hearing the crowd scream along to their favorite songs, and they even played the crowd favorite(Amber Alert.)" -Boise Weekly 07/08/2016 - Boise Weekly

Bio

Figure 8 started in 2012 with 2 high school pranksters, a few broken instruments, and a line of bad jokes. Michael Abraham(Guitar) and Jake Thompson(Drums) began learning how to play their instruments, and turned some of their jokes into song lyrics. After they had put together a few songs, they put together the first batch of Figure 8 songs onto a demo. Released only on YouTube, you can find songs like Full Brazilian, Offensive and Impulsive, and the original version of Spaced Out. At the end of 2013, Thompson left the band to go to college, and was replaced by drummer Andrew Honan. With the addition of Steve Miller(Bass) and Chris Sullivan(Guitar) the band began to play around Boise, perfecting their craft. After a year of playing together, the band went into the studio to put together their first record. The band recorded the album "Spaced Out," which was just their setlist at the time. The album was recorded and mixed all in one day, and the band released "Spaced Out," in September of 2014. Abraham was disappointed in the final product of the album, and spent the next year and a half going through different lineup changes, even performing solo for a period of time. After many different lineups, Figure 8 settled upon Logan Bardoff as their bassist and began work on their next album "What?" Abraham started writing songs immediately after releasing Spaced Out, and wrote the songs over the next year and a half. While Abraham was shoveling snow one day, he came up with the idea for the song "Tahiti." "It was about 20 degrees outside, and I was so miserable that I would have literally done anything at that point to be rich and warm. I started kind of humming a tune in my head, and came up with the lyrics right then and there in the middle of a snowstorm. Originally I was just planning on playing the song to laugh with my friends, as kind of a joke, but I realized that the lyrics ended up being pretty dark. I was right in the middle of Breaking Bad at the time, and Tahiti is the only tropical island I've ever been to, so the lyrics make sense. I ran inside, and started playing my guitar, even though my fingers we're completely numb. And all the lyrics fit super well with this surfer guitar riff I had written the night before. It was the most inopportune time to write a surf punk song, but I think it all came together pretty well" -Scooter Michael Abraham, 2016 via Facebook. After compiling all of the songs, the band recorded the album over the next 3 months. The band recorded in Abraham's spare bedroom and at the Tonic Room in Boise. The album was produced and mastered by Jason Ringelstetter, and released officially on June 25th, 2016.
