"A Inside Look at Gorilla Chief’s Stay at MetroSonic"

Earlier this month we brought to light some info on Garage Rock band Gorilla Chief‘s latest production for their upcoming EP. Well, we at MetroSonic are proud to announce that the work done here is on the verge of being wrapped!

The New York based Garage Rock trio did all of their basic tracking together in our live room and we used some of our most sought out vintage microphones to capture their great live sound, including an RCA 44 prototype and a SONY C37. For one of the songs we used our large room to capture the 2nd guitar using our Silvertone Amp, placing the microphone at a distance, resulting in a HUGE natural room sound that suited the grittiness of the band sound beautifully.

Here are some Behind The Scenes pictures of the band hard at work here in the studio with our Chief Engineer, Pete Mignola! - MetroSonic Studios

"All Analog Recording With Gorilla Chief"

Gorilla Chief visited MetroSonic today to record 3 new songs for their upcoming EP. The session was 100% Analog, making use of our Ampex tape machine, and tracked directly to 2” tape.

Recording this band has been a true pleasure. It becomes a rarity now in our line of the Music Business when a band chooses to seek out the age-old process of true analog and the Gorilla Chief’s truly made the best out of their experience here. - MetroSonic Studios

Bio

Brooklyn's Gorilla Chief is a pedal-to-the-metal, beer-guzzling three-piece rock outfit channeling the sounds of 1960's garage and psychedelia accompanied by subtle nods to outlaw country and the hits of Sun Records. In 2015, the band released its debut 7" single of an all-analog recording session at Brooklyn's famed MetroSonic Studios. The release immediately gained the attention of local and national rock 'n roll aficionados, resulting in consistent radio play on WFMU's tastemaking "Three Chord Monte" and "Todd-o-phonic Todd" shows. Since its inception, Gorilla Chief has been playing New York's top venues, sharing the stage with notable acts like The Coffin Daggers, The Above and The Nuclears, while steadily garnering universal acclaim from fans and fellow musicians for their electric live shows. At the personal request of DJ/Host Joe Belock, the band recently played a wildly well-received live set on WFMU's "Three Chord Monte."

The band is currently in the process of writing new songs for a full-length release and booking tours on the East Coast and down to SXSW 2016. In addition, one of the band's songs, "Outta Sight," will be featured as the theme song of an upcoming comedy web series as part of Fusion Network's highly anticipated F-Comedy channel.
