origins: illicitizen band name/logoOctober 24, 2011
Band: Illicitizen. I came up with the name as a solo thing where I could do more experimental music.. It was a time when the govt increased its surveillance of citizens. It still seems like any questioning of this authority comes off as unpatriotic and illicit in the minds of a lot of folks. Plus I think we’ve lived in era where the most reprehensible behaviors by corporations and governments has become institutionalized while many moral behaviors are criminalized. Hence illicit+citizen = illicitizen. The pixel font in the logo was used to connote a kind of techno-vibe as well as using the man/woman signs for the first two i’s to demonstrate a oneness or standardization of humanity. Sort of stripping away our individualism and making people just cogs in the machinery. After Maria joined the band the graphic elements just sort of outlined themselves. I think we’ve actually done our best to downplay the electronic-technological aspects of the music while keeping the original idea alive. |
