"Hip Rock Magazine Interviews J. Shaw"

J. Shaw is a very energetic young artist born in Queens,NY raised in Decataur and Lithonia,GA. He is a down to earth artist with a swagg thats says, "I''ve lived and learned."

This guy has definitely been on his grind from college shows to linking up with major artist like Khujo Goodie of Goodie MOB dropping a hot track entitled "Another Day Another Dollar".

J.Shaw may, in looks, resemble T.I. but he also seems to share the hunger for greatness as well. He has his hands into a little of everything and he is ambitious. Don't doubt that you may see this guy in the lime-light someday soon, maybe sooner than we all think. Thanks for your contribution to HRM and to Hip-Hop....stay hungry! - Magnifeeq

"J. Shaw – “Mrs. Know It All” Review by Matt Bible"

Hip-hop with a social conscience while appealing to a wider, mainstream audience can be tricky to master at times. However, J. Shaw, who is from Lithonia, GA (a suburb of Atlanta), fills that void pretty well with his single, “Mrs. Know it All”. ”Mrs. Know it All” is about a woman who has chosen the life of gold-digging and setting her priorities on material things, rather than building her wealth and knowledge. The song is a warning to the men not looking past the physical assets this woman possesses, unknowingly about to be blindsided with her manipulation and baggage. One line in particular stuck out for me. J. Shaw says “She got a thousand dollar purse with them food stamps in it”. I think almost all of us know a woman like this. The song is catchy as well.

J. Shaw was first inspired to contribute to hip-hop after hearing 2-Pac’s “I Get Around” at age seven. Vocally, he sounds a little bit like T.I. and reminds me a bit of a lot of his music from the album, Paper Trail . I feel it would not be far off to also sense a little Andre 3000 influence in the music as well. Check out the music video below for “Mrs. Know it All”. Gold Diggers might be a little pissed off after watching this, but normal humans should enjoy the song!

J-SHAW of TUFF TONE RECORDS .ATLANTA -- J-SHAW was born in Queens, New York in 1986. Soon after, his parents permanently relocated him to Lithonia, Ga. After hearing 2Pac's "I Get Around" at the age of 7, JUSTIN knew then that he wanted to be a major contributor to the world of Hip-Hop.

He started taking his craft seriously in 2004 and had been committed ever since. He states, " My passion for music won't allow me to be just a local independent artist. I have to branch out to become an international artist". He wants to release his own music and this is because, from his point of view, he feels the world would be robbed of good music. J-SHAW's music background is personal. He likes to make music content that is relatable to the listeners. His music involves social conscience and is music that makes you feel as if you have someone to lean on during trials and tribulations. His music is also music that makes you have a good time. J-SHAW states, " At the end of the day, I can only be Me. You can hear a million NO's, but it only takes one YES. Until then, I'm going to continue to make good music that people can relate to".

At 26 years of age, J-SHAW has won numerous showcases, launched his imprint label "TUFF TONE RECORDS" and recorded alongside Khugo Goodie of the group GOODIE MOB. With current plans including releasing 2 mixtapes, a debut album and within a year, starting his own clothing line, it is inevitable that J-SHAW will certainly shine on stage and off. Check out J. Bio

“You can hear a million ‘No’s’ but it only takes one ‘Yes.’

Atlanta transplant J Shaw is an artist who has heard his share of “no’s” over the years but, despite layers of adversity that have come his way, he’s kept his vision alive, always finding a way through.

Shaw’s musical aspirations began when he first heard legendary Tupac Shakur’s “I Get Around.” But, interestingly enough, it was a scene from the film The Great White Hype, featuring none other than Method Man rapping, that truly set the artist on course, inspiring him to not only to perform but to dig into the craft of songwriting as well. And drawing from influences as diverse as LL Cool J, Rakim, DMX, and Eminem, among others, Shaw began to hone his signature style, forming a sound that was all his own.
But the growing artist quickly learned that launching a career in music was tough and money soon became an issue. Making an admittedly poor decision, Shaw took to dealing drugs for a short-lived time but saw through the lies and violence that life foretold and soon left the life in order to work a series of blue collar jobs. And, fully invested in his dream, the single father of two even went to the greatest of extremes, selling his home in order to have a budget to pursue his music full time.

Opportunities to learn soon came along as well, the artist earning the chances to work with a who’s who list of hip-hop stars while interning as a studio engineer. Those he was fortunate enough to work with included Dallas Austin, T.I., Young Jeezy, Usher, and 808 Mafia. But perhaps the most influential contact made there was with Khujo Goodie of Goodie Mob, with whom he would collaborate with to write the track, “Another Day, Another Dollar.”

Those experiences have helped Shaw to grow and to maintain his focus on his musical mission, seeking to deliver something memorable, positive, and original in a world of hip-hop that’s often known more for conformity.

Speaking to that mission, Shaw shares, “When fans reflect on my career, I want them to remember me as an artist who brought authenticity and truth to his craft. I would like to be known as a lyricist with music that inspires and uplifts anyone going through trials and tribulations.”

And Shaw’s bringing his fans along for the ride, offering them continual behind the scene looks and unprecendented access to interact with and engage the artist. It’s all part of his dream of becoming one of the greatest MC’s ever while providing flame of inspiration to his fans, inviting them to pursue their dreams and to truly live life to the fullest.
