Shetland Folk Festival

Posted By Jamie from Home May 6, 2009
Hi Folks,

Thought it was again time to do a blog.  I'm just back from a fantastic Shetland Folk Festival where i was playing with Emily and the guys.  We had some lovely gigs with great musicians including Box Club, Cara Dillon, fantastic Canadian groups Vishten and Madison Violet and loads of others.  The sessions at night were all we had been made to believe they would be, fun, fast and neverending! An early night meant bed was about 4am, a long night 10am, a good night, after midday :)

The most fun gig for me was the New Rope String band who were brilliantly funny and also cracking musicians.  Havn't laughed so much at a gig ever, i think myself and Emily are going to do our best to get them to come to our region so all our friends can see for themselves!

A nice surprise for me was when i found out our hosts for the weekend were two friends of mine Shirley (from Shetland, who I met in NZ 11 years ago) and her husband Steve, from New Zealand like me (unfortunately a Hurricanes supporter but i forgave him that!
Steve had been part of the Viking squad at this years Up Helly Aa festival and let me try on his Helmet, Axe and Shield, all handmade by himself.

It's sad that the festival is over, but i'm not sure my body could have withstood another night of partying in the everlasting daylight!  Looking forward to getting back to finishing of my album.
Catch ya soon,
Ciao,
Jamie
