"Quarantine Summer"

EP inspired by ‘Quarantine Summer’ showcases young musician’s diverse musical abilities

DALLAS, TX – A young new heartthrob has been making his way onto the music scene for the past few years, and his new EP, “Quarantine Summer” is the perfect project to propel him onto a wider global stage. Joshua Flores has been a recording artist throughout much of his teenage years, and now at age 21, this Pop crooner is creating music that is drawing attention from all corners of the industry and gaining a rapidly increasing fanbase worldwide. Slated to drop on Aug. 21, this five-song EP was inspired by his time during quarantine and offers five different vibes that he says most others who have experienced the quarantine will be able to relate with.

“Each song is based on a certain style of music – like different types of genres that branch out and show the different things I like to try to do to get outside of my comfort zone,” he said. “I’m always trying to incorporate the different things I like because I like to challenge myself and try new things when it comes to my music. Even when I’m doing a Pop song or any song, I always try to incorporate that soulful sound. I make music that is catchy and relatable to people. I try to write songs that cover a broad range of topics. Everyone has experienced heartbreak or relationships. Sometimes people want to have fun. Each song on this EP has a different feeling and people can relate to it by the vibe they feel.”

The project opens up with “I’m Done,” an Alt-Pop track that is perhaps the greatest departure from anything he’s ever created before. Nodding to influences like Billie Eillish or 21 Pilots, this darker-toned song uses strings and background vocals to evoke deep emotions that come from a breakup.

This is followed by “Attention” which Joshua said is a Club song with an upbeat vibe that will make people want to get up and dance. Even when not at the club, however, it’s a song that he said is great to just listen to and vibe with and chill to while having fun with friends. The concept of the song is about a guy seeing a girl at a club and she’s catching everyone’s eye. He wants to get her attention so he’s doing a lot of things to attract her and entice her to have a good time.

The third song on the EP is “Slow,” an R&B track that is perfectly suited to showcase Joshua’s voice. It’s more of a sexy song than he’s ever created, he said – perfect for some alone time with that loved one. Immediately following this is “Vibe” which has a very electronic-forward sound. It’s entirely produced by Flores who said he’s always been attracted toward more of an electronic style.

“This is the most quarantine-forward song,” he said, “because it’s all about being stuck at home and wanting to go out and have fun but you can’t. All you can do is vibe at home and dance around and have fun with where you’re at.”

The EP ends with “Farewell” which is a Hip Hop track in the style of Post Mallone. Joshua said he based the song off the negative emotions that come from a breakup after having given the person multiple chances. It’s a “so long, farewell, screw-you-for-hurting-me” kind of song, he said.

"Quarantine Summer Best Pop EP of 2020"

We are absolutely stoked to be introducing you today to a young, insanely talented singer from Corpus Christi, Texas. His name is Joshua Flores and his EP, Quarantine Summer, offers a profoundly different take on pop as you know it. Quarantine Summer is an outright genre rollercoaster, ranging from organic pop, fast singing that outpaces even rap artists, laid back RnB vocals, and a surprising touch of the ’80s vibes. Think of Chris Brown mixed with Dua Lipa. I know, hard to fathom, but Joshua Flores’s music is exactly that.

I’m Done, the first song off the EP, is laying the foundation for the listener’s expectations. And mind you, these turn out to be quite high as Joshua sings flawlessly and doesn’t miss a single damn note. He even harmonizes with himself on the hook, carrying the entire vocal arrangement as both the back singer and the main vocalist. This screams of one thing: YEARS of work and vocal mastery. Major applause as well for the excellent audio production. Every single instrument is vivid, balanced, and beautifully intercalated with one another. And those lyrics!!! “With all of your lies/ And your fake cries/ I realize that I’m so done/ You’ll never be the one for me/ Don’t you see that I’m so done” damn… narcissists just exited the room.

Attention, the 2nd track off Quarantine Summer, is dead serious a hit song. If Joshua shot a music video for it and got some influencers to dance on it, Tik Tok would be on fire in 3, 2, 1! Attention displays a modern production, that contemporaneous rhythm rooted in the upgraded Latin sound (think J Balvin’s drums and snares), and a voice that buzzes victoriously throughout the entirety of the song. It is a major treat for pop lovers and Latin music aficionados. Admirable how Joshua laid vocals from start to end without a single musical break in between. And we love that. That’s how music used to be before the invasion of untalented singers who conveniently step away during the hook to let the music do the “singing”. Thank you Joshua Flores for keeping remarkably high standards in creating music.

Slow is an unexpected but a most welcome RnB surprise on Quarantine Summer. Joshua Flores introduces the audience to a new facet of his fabulous voice, going deeper than the first tracks, and diving in plenty of fast vibrato endings and harmonies. Lyrically, it sounds like he’s found a new, better love than the one he’s dumped in I’m Done. Interesting how Quarantine Summer starts feeling like a portion of Joshua’s personal timeline exquisitely laid over sensational instrumentals.

Vibe, the 4th song off the EP, is another masterpiece that supports Joshua Flores’s assertion as a prolific, multi-faceted artist. If Slow was an RnB surprise, Vibe feels like an ’80s confetti was popped over your head when you just woke up. A major shock but a strong artistic statement. And given how Dua Lipa quite single-handedly revived the ’80s phenomenon, the market is more than ready for Joshua Flores’s Vibe. It is a record that will attract 2 huge audiences: generation Z AND their parents, generation X. The lyrics are easy to memorize, smooth in delivery, and add a retro spark to Quarantine Summer. Well done Joshua, well done!

Farewell, the 5th and last song off Quarantine Summer, gives us some melancholic acoustic guitar, clean hip hop-like drums, relaxed vocals, which summed up, results in timeless potential. And let’s talk about how Joshua’s singing style progresses towards rap when he speeds it up, coming full circle with the beat, the uncensored lyrics, and the aggressive attitude. Joshua Flores completely dominates the track, rendering it an adult break up song. Curious if it’s the same person from I’m Done or if it’s the second one that seemed nice in Vibe and Slow. He does mention that she f*cked him over twice! o_O sheesh, we want an IG handle to judge deeper in - Bluerhymez.com

Bio

I am a 22 year old Pop/R&B Independent Recording artist. I was signed to an Independent label out of Miami when I was 12 years old. Since I am from Texas, I would fly back and forth to Miami to record and work on development. I recorded and worked with many different producers who had written some great songs for me to put out but, unfortunately, I never released any original music. I was signed up until I was 18 years old but I had stopped doing anything for my career around 16 years old. The label had crumbled and I ended up getting out of my contract. Even though the experience was not that great, it did teach me some things about the music business and how it works. So, for the past 3 years, I decided to try to restart my career, Independently. I have been starting to write and produce my own music. I got certified to be an audio engineer and have released an official EP with 5 songs. I did an official music video for one of my singles and have since, released several more singles in the past year, alone. I am determined to restart my career and be in charge of my own destiny by staying independent. I just want to make a living doing what I love doing and that's singing and producing music.
