"Don't Stop Believin'"

Jurni Rayne debuts first single at Queerly Speaking Tonight

At tonight’s Queerly Speaking, local musician Jurni Rayne turns it out with her debut single “You Lied.” And if you haven’t seen or heard her before, then we highly recommend checking her out tonight. She’s got a nice mix of Norah Jones and Lauryn Hill thing going, but it’s all Jurni.

DEETS: South Dallas Cultural Center, 3400 S. Fitzhugh Ave. 8 p.m. $5. FahariArtsInstitute.org.

Bio

Jurni Rayne is not your average Adult Contemporary vocalist/artist. This Dallas, Texas native has a great sound and unique flair. Do not judge a book by its cover because this anomaly of a diva will have you melting over the the sultry sounds of her voice and the depth of her lyrics. Jurni Rayne is well versed in guitar and piano, however, it is the voice that pulls everything together.

Jurni Raynes father, Louis James Butler is a renown blues guitarist who introduced her to music at the tender age of 4. Jurni developed an early love for music as a result of her fathers influence. Jurni Raynes mother, Eugenia Butler, started a strong foundation by getting her involved in the arts at a young age. Beginning with tap, ballet and jazz dance classes at the age of 4 and piano lessons at the age of 10. Eugenia has been Jurnis moral support for everything that she was involved in and continues to nurture Jurnis talents by being the backbone of her support system. Jurni Raynes brother, Andre Butler, also known as Dre Emcee, is in entertainment management and has featured Jurni on a couple of collaborations.

Jurni Rayne studied Spanish and Hospitality and became a restaurant manager. She did what she felt society deemed right, which was go to school, get a degree and a career. She sings in the title song. Finding My Way, Got my degree/And a career for me/But deep down I wasnt happy/Then suddenly/I couldnt breathe/And I just had to leave. She continued her hobby of music, until her passion for it was too much to bear. She then realized that music was her true calling and hospitality was her hobby.

Jurni Raynes ultimate goal is to become an acclaimed lyricist/vocalist. She also plans to combine her love for hospitality and music by opening chains of lounges that will feature and give life to new talent in the area, while allowing the community to have a place to be themselves and enjoy great food, spirits and music.
