"Reaching Altitude: Sunday Salon #3"

...Pretty much everybody agreed that the star of this evening was Kelley Swindall. The Americana songstress wowed the crowd with a couple of brutal new murder ballads, the second one long and mysterious with a wicked payoff. Swindall is southern by birth and sings with a charming natural twang but also a persistent unease: you wouldn’t necessarily expect nuance in a murder ballad, but that’s what she gave them. And she knows her blues on the guitar too... - New York Music Daily

Bio

Kelley Swindall was born and raised in Stone Mountain, Georgia, where she grew up listening to the music of Kris Kristofferson, Patsy Cline, and Johnny Cash on the way to church every Sunday morning, because that's what her daddy listened to. The rest of the week she listened to Motown and Golden Oldies on the Atlanta oldies station, fox97, because that's what her ride listened to. Jewel, Shawn Colvin, and Meredith Brooks were her middle school jams, and when she was old enough to drive herself, she added Ryan Adams, Petty, Dylan, Hank, The Band, and Skynyrd to the mix.

Drawing from her southern background, her style is a unique blend of soulful dark & bluesy folk coupled with a witty, gritty, old school country sensibility,  inspired by the outlaw tradition and rooted in story songs and talking blues, from the perspective of women who tell it like it is and don't take shit.

She plays regularly in her adopted home of New York City, as well as frequently on the road. Look for her debut album "You Can Call Me Darling If You Want", out on Velvet Elk Records, In 2020.

“Swindall is southern by birth and sings with a charming natural twang but also a persistent unease... she knows her blues on the guitar too. ”

“... an engaging performer with a knack for a catchy tune and a choice turn of phrase... Her songs have a southern warmth to them, whether bluesy or more country; she’s also a casually compelling singer who can let a phrase trail off mysteriously or add just the tinge of a smoky, bluesy rasp or wail on the more upbeat numbers.”
