Kid Slim

Chicago’s Kid Slim has a pretty impressive history in music. In 2011, he claimed the #1 spot on datpiff with his Slimstones mixtape. Then, in 2012, he again claimed the #1 spot with his Stay Young mixtape. It seems he can’t be stopped. Today, he released his latest project titled Freshman 15, and he’s aiming for that top spot yet again. and last I saw it was well on its way at the #2 spot on Datpiff.

But hey, it’s not all about the numbers, but they do speak for something. The real magic comes when you hit the play button and you go from one track to the next. In addition to being catchy (its hella-catchy), it’s all real stuff. This stuff really happened to the kid. The tape is focused on his experience of the college life, prior to him dropping out and perusing music. Each track is a polished piece of work with excellent beat selection and even better rhymes. This is one of those rare projects that you can listen from start to finish and enjoy every track. So I recommend you grab the project below and do just that. - Mason Strehl

Let me preface this by saying, I love seeing young cats hustling, and pursuing whatever their dreams maybe. I like writing about everything that I’m into. For me, not just pop culture, but it goes from food, fashion, kicks, to where I like to get my haircut, anything and everything I’m interested in.
MUSIC. Who doesn’t like MUSIC right?
I love supporting the local scene here in Chicago. Speaking of, have you met Kid Slim? I remember meeting him I think in the burbs at a venue that was inside a bowling alley if I’m not mistaken. Really nice kid, and his crew were as well. Very tall! 6″8 to be exact. But, hell he could of been 5″10. I’m Asian everyones tall to me LOL.
I would see him more and more opening up at shows for people like, “Mike Stud’ at Reggies”. His crew name themselves “TruDREAM Entertainment”. A group of friends with a common goal to make it in music.
I dig the story. Kid Slim actually got a scholarship to play basketball for Western University! That’s pretty dope in itself right? But, his heart lies in his music which is something he’s gonna be pursuing 100% very soon. His manager Sam, describes him as “having his own style, his hustle on the court translates to the studio, loves performing and meetings the fans, and the plan is very much like what Scooter Braun did with Bieber, to win over every fan individually”.
These are all good people and definitely support them as they prepare for a 13 date tour very soon! I really dig the use of musical instruments in some of his music, and also listen to “Graduation”. Dope song which he wrote when he was 17. He’s only 19 now.
