Skilly: Tell us where this all began. What is your history in the music scene?
King Relik: Klepto K and myself have been playing music in bands and hip hop groups together for almost two decades. Everything from punk rock, funk, metal, classic rock, weird jazz stuff, etc. we did it all! This past year we went on the road twice and played some amazing cities across the U.S. with our comedic hip hop group.

What are the best ways to promote yourself as an artist? Any tips you can give us?
Social media is a given, but there’s a big part of human interaction that is lost when strictly promoting online. So get out, talk, and connect with the people in your city! If you can win them over you have a great chance at success in any city!

What do you ultimately want to become in your career?
Respected in the music business as artists that make original, fun, politically incorrect music. Simple as that.

What is the hardest thing about being in the music business?
Clubs not paying artists properly is the worst and also balancing the regular “pay rent, pick up dog crap, and keep the lights on” life with the “I’m a dope ass artist” life.

What is it like in your city? What is the music scene like, and how is it like living there overall?
King Relik: Here in Milwaukee it’s cold seven months out of the year, but that hibernation creates some great artists. We have a ton of talented, weird, funny, crazy characters that make music.

Klepto K: Long beach has a super relaxed vibe, very music friendly. Tons of different groups making Long Beach’s music scene one of the best in the country. Living here is great with plenty of opportunity to get your music out!

What are some of advice you can give and share to other artists who are still trying to come up?
Just focus on you and your craft, but also plan goals. That’s all you can do. Get out and meet people, especially other musicians. Contacts, the more the better! Practice, practice, practice!

What is the best thing that’s ever happened in your career?
We got to hangout and work with some amazing artists like Afroman and Bubba Sparxxx. Just being able to make music that people love is the best thing!

What is your inspiration?
Happiness, togetherness, girls, beer, good smoke, and music.

Do you feel anyone can be successful now in today’s world of music?
Nope. Not everyone has music in their soul. We live for this! If you don’t suck and you live for this, then yes.
