"[SUNDAY SPOTLIGHT] C.I.T.Y. CHRONICLES"

Meet this week’s Sunday Spotlight C.I.T.Y. Chronicles.

We first met this week’s Sunday Spotlight artist through the homie Go Phigga. He came through as a guest feature on Phigga’s M.S.O.M. 1.5 project. Fast forward a couple of months and we finally met the New Orleans emcee face to face while making a stop here in Atlanta on tour. Lazies meet C.I.T.Y. Chronicles.

Full of ambition and focus, C.I.T.Y. is one of those few artist that after coming across them, you are immediately a fan. Not only can this guy rap, he’s also a cool dude to be around. Being humble goes a long way with us here on Da Den. Add that to countless good records and it make for a good recipe of success.

Back in January C.I.T.Y. released a new single featuring buzzing New York emcee Dave East titled “Monv Lisv“. Considering this record was “too real for radio”, we were patiently awaiting an accompanying visual and that happened today. C.I.T.Y. takes a trip to New York for the Ko Jones-directed visual, which can be seen below along with his other catalog. - www.str8outdaden.com

"Relevant: C.I.T.Y. (@CityChronicles) ft. @DaveEast – “MonvLisv”"

The boy C.I.T.Y. drops off his debut single “Mona Lisa” – spelled “MonvLisv”, featuring New York’s own Dave East. Tony Dark & Nate Coop did work with this production to say the least. Get in tune to this one. East spitting that N.Y. shit! - www.JackThriller.com

"C.I.T.Y. – Monv Lisv ft Dave East (Official Video Directed by Kojo Films)"

C.I.T.Y. connects with Kojo Films to deliver a visual master piece. After releasing his hard hitting Tony Dark and Nate Coop produced track Monv Lisv ft New York’s own Dave East. The New Orleans MC turns it up a notch by letting the streets of Brooklyn become his canvas. With the creative eye of Keaux Jeaux (KojoFilms) behind the lens the two reveal their image of the Mona Lisa.

"C.I.T.Y. FEAT. DAVE EAST – “MONA LISA”"

Coming out swinging C.I.T.Y. is bringing the power in his 2016 debut single “Mona Lisa” featuring New York’s own Dave East. C.I.T.Y compares his struggle and socially progressive vision of life to the beauty legend Mona Lisa with straight-forward hard hitting rhymes. - www.SheBloggin.com

"C.I.T.Y. Chronicles - Poetic"

C.I.T.Y. has been getting a lot of love lately since his video “How The World Turns” has been added to the MTV Jams rotation. The track off his most recent mixtape Peace of Mind, even got love from the one and only Erykah Badu after she posted a screenshot on her Instagram page praising the young man on the positivity in his music.

It seems like C.I.T.Y. dropped “Poetic” in a time we need it most. Rhyming about his fears as a black man over Chris Wheeler’s jazz infused hip hop beat, “Poetic” is just that. A quick verse or more so a quick poem, C.I.T.Y. leaves us with something to think about and keep us pressing repeat. The N.O. native recently dropped a sneak peek of new music he’s been working on featuring production from Tony Dark and Nate Coop’s beat tape At Dawn. Being a fan of all three artists, I can’t wait to hear the finished product! Get familiar with C.I.T.Y. Chronicles by checking out Peace of Mind and let us know what you think…and if you need some positivity in your life make sure you follow C.I.T.Y. on Twitter and Instagram.

"THE PEACE OF MIND ALBUM RELEASE TOUR @ THE ALLEY KAT (@CITYCHRONICLES) [ARTIST BUZZ + EVENTS]"

ON MARCH 26, RAPPER C.I.T.Y WILL BE VISITING THE ALLEY KAT BAR FOR THE PEACE OF MIND ALBUM RELEASE TOUR ALONG WITH A FEW SPECIAL GUESTS.
This Friday, a group of talented local artist will come together to celebrate the Houston stop on rapper C.I.T.Y’s The Peace of Mind album release tour. The album release party will be held at Alley Kat bar located at 3718 Main St, Houston, TX in midtown.

THE HEADLINER: C.I.T.Y
David Paul Baptiste, Jr from New Orleans, Louisiana found his love of music at the tender age of 10 and eventually found his love for rap. As I hear it, C.I.T.Y has giant musical shoes to fill. C.I.T.Y’s great-grandfather, Louis Barbarian and his great-uncle, Paul Barbarian were distinguished jazz musicians in the 40’s. C.I.T.Y has dropped La Mort Avant Le Deshonneur, Rosetta Stone: The Translations of an Old Soul, Rolling Stone: Life in the Business and his first mixtape release, The Chronicles of City: Against All Odds and is ready to share the music from his new album The Peace of Mind. - Hive Society

"C.I.T.Y. Chronicles - How The World Turn (Official Video)"

After releasing his latest project "Peace Of Mind" and hitting the road on his independent #PeaceOfMindTour in New Orleans, Houston and Dallas so far, C.I.T.Y. Chronicles releases the "How The World Turn" music video exclusively on MTV Jams. The cut was produced by the brilliant mind of Yinfluence, and Korey Jones of Kojo Films directed the amazing visual. - ok-tho.com

"Video: C.I.T.Y. Chronicles – How The World Turn [@CITYchronicles @Kojo_films @yinfluence]"

For all of the build-up by way of the tracks that preceded it – from “Love Hate Theory” featuring Houston songbird Bee Honey to “Clinton Era” being one of the more slept-on jams of 2014 – the release of C.I.T.Y. Chronicles’ Peace Of Mind mixtape seemed to hit very quietly last month. But now C.I.T.Y. is preparing to make some noise again in 2015, especially if his new visuals for “How The World Turn” are any indication.

True, having your music video premiere on MTV Jams is a great way to remind people of what you bring to the table. But it’s much bigger than that for the New Orleans emcee. In his own words:

“Many people from all walks of life commute to New Orleans for… the history, culture, and essence of freedom that lingers with in the vibe of the Big Easy. Many may glorify the negativity the surrounds the city but few MC’s paint picture of the beauty that lies beneath the corruption, and murder.” C.I.T.Y. counts himself among those “few.” By way of director Korey Jones (of KoJo Films), C.I.T.Y.’s “How The World Turn” music video breathes life into the colors, the sounds, the people, the landmarks, the street art culture and more that define N.O.

"C.I.T.Y. Peace Of Mind Mixtape"

Three years, a move, a change of life.

That, in a nutshell is the backstory behind C.I.T.Y. Chronicles last project, 2012’s Death Before Dishonor and now – 2015’s Peace Of Mind. A quick recap. C.I.T.Y. was a New Orleans transplant, a rapper who stuck with the template of fire, passion and plenty of ideas that needed fine tuning and execution and found that in Houston. Death Before Dishonor featured him rocking a mask in homage to Dead Presidents but everything else was ripped right from the bloodlines of a man whose seen plenty and yet still wants more.

There’s no such thing as peace as a musician. C.I.T.Y. knows this hence why he’s attempted to blend his New Orleans roots with a variety of producers from not just New Orleans but Dallas and Houston and beyond. Yinfluence, Tony Dark, CyFyre, BCKMN, KO and Prolivik all add something to Peace Of Mind. There’s no clutter of guest verses from other artists, just singers in the form of Bee Honey & Korey Blues. “I ain’t never had shit,” he raps on the chorus to “The Spiteful,” regardless of him having plenty of personal wealth. He’s no longer in Houston, residing in Dallas with his wife and unborn child. He wants to chart even further, spread out and continue expansion through certain concepts and beats. As sparse as something like “The Spiteful” may be, C.I.T.Y. will chop through DJ scratches, hard hitting drum patterns and jazzy piano loops. The drawl will forever be New Orleans but the mindstate is global. All in the search of peace. - DayandaDream.com

"The Tony Dark Experience"

There is no Napoleon complex wrapped around The Tony Dark Experience, his new album, just a varied crew of rappers from Doeman to Danny Watts and Detroit’s Guilty Simpson. On the warped boom bap of “Famous,” Kxng David raps with the wispy pride of a man from New Orleans who has seen way too many murders and knows there’s a cache of street credentials attached to it. “I ain’t never got bodied on a verse,” Doeman raps on “Swerve,” as Tony Dark cracks back a dusty drum pattern and woozy keyboard licks. “My past life, I was a Bad Boy signed to Death Row.” The more The Tony Dark Experience leans between different lanes, the more you get that the only requirement for steering what amounts to an audio Big Box Chevy is that they can rap. And not sticking to A-B-B-A rhyme schemes or framework, I mean make you willfully squeal to your friends and complete strangers about how dope they are. - Houston Press

Bio

Great grandson of
legendary New Orleans jazz drummer Louis Babarin, David "KvngDavid"
Paul Baptiste Jr has created and is marching to a beat of his own.  Before KvngDavid flooded the airwaves with the revolutionary hip hop single How the
World turns on MTV Jams directed by childhood friend Korey Jones (KojoFilms)
and surfacing to top 12 of 2012 (dayandadream.com) with the album Death Before Dishonor, perhaps the biggest
surge comes from surviving the hurricane Katrina ruination of August
29th 2005.  An unvarnished native of the variegated New Orleans, it was
at the age of 8 when KvngDavid’s older cousin, Gregory Baptiste, introduced him
to hip-hop. Undoubtedly inspired by the stimulating art, it was merely a year
later when he composed his first song at 9 years of age, though he wouldn't
record until the age of 13 while in the studio of his uncle and fellow musician
Darren Brazley.  Dignifying his productive abilities to a higher stage,
while he and his family were forced to evacuate their home in New Orleans, it
was in Dallas, TX where he found refuge in wisdom.  Be it a lesson learned
after being expelled from Cedar Hill high school, afterthoughts from
conversations with his now present father or the discipline from night classes
credited to earning a GED~KvngDavid was able to seize control of his life and
express himself through his music.  It was while enrolled at Texas
Southern University where others began to recognize the abilities KvngDavid possessed of storytelling and creating authentic songs.  It was at TSU
where he met budding producer Y-influence, and many more influential
contributors to his career. KvngDavid has since illuminated the stage with
such heavy weights as Erykah Badu, Kendrick Lamar and Rza of the Wu Tang
Clan.  With several albums, touring performances and a mainstream music
video under his belt, it’s hard not to follow and observe what yet another
Katrina survivor is still able achieve after emerging from the water that
inundated the belly of the beast over a decade ago.
