"Colorado Music Buzz"

Kyle James Hauser’s debut solo album, Oh Oh, plays like a series of short stories, each track straightforward and easy to visualize. Hauser’s banjo-hearty songs range from the folksy “Hopeless,” and Mat Kearney-esque “Oh Oh,” to the realistic story-telling tracks “Long Gone” and “Norway,” both vividly describing the destructive remnants of war.

“Peter and Gladys” effectively portrays the heartbreak of young love, once full of hope and confidence, which eventually diminishes under the wear and tear of life stating, “they realized they’d spent their whole lives locked in a promise with nothing else to show.”

Hauser then adds a taste of country on “Thank God You’re My Woman;” a story about a woman who loves her man in spite of his, “set of bad teeth,” and numerous other flaws.

Oh Oh was released in 2011. I recently saw Hauser play at the Bluebird, and my interest was piqued. After listening through the CD, I decided this is a must-have. Good for any mood, and every emotion.

"The Westword"

Cynics need not apply when considering Kyle James Hauser's debut solo album, Oh Oh. With its delicate Americana-style banjo picking and soulful, sentimental vocals, it's the ideal morning record, an unabashedly cheerful collection of expertly crafted songs. Collaborating with singer/cellist Ben Sollee, guitarist Grant Gordy (of the David Grisman quintet) and producer Jayme Stone, Hauser has delivered a memorable debut that will not soon be forgotten.
