"Laomi Devinci - Gold Rollie"

Exclusive Interview

Tell us about where you are from and how you got to this position today.
I’m from Flint, MI. It’s a place where most PEOPLE don’t have high hopes for much of nothing. I’ve had the same dream since I was 12, to make music. I just always saw so much more for myself than being the typical female from my city. I wanna go places. I just wanna create dope music with dope people.

Tell us more about the current song you are promoting to everyone.
Gold Rollie is a club song. It’s one of the songs you can’t help but to sing along to. It’s catchy. It’s a female club ANTHEM. I just wanted to put out a dance song. I’ve done lyrical singles and just wanted to approach a different angle than what I usually do.

Tell us about one of the hardest challenges you had to face in the industry?
Not having enough resources to push my career and get my music out, or even having a place to record. For a long time I went without having a team to help me push my movement then I linked up with The Graduates, NETWORKED with a couple DJs, and shot a few videos with Adam Da Prince, and things kind of took off from there.

What was one of the biggest set backs in your career and how did you bounce back?
Being involved in so much other stuff outside of my music career. I do charity events, I work full-time, and I’m a full-time student at Central Michigan University pursuing my Bachelor’s DEGREE IN Political Science. I sometimes feel as if I don’t have enough time to work on my music as much as I’d like to but I still find time in between my busy schedule because it’s what I love to do.

What are some things artists need to be careful of?
Producers that don’t have your best interest at heart. The producers you work with can make or break your career and if you’re working with people who don’t wanna go the same route that you wanna go or aren’t supportive as they should be, it’s less likely that your career will head the direction you’re hoping for.

What suggestions do you have for other artists like yourself?
Stay focused. I know PEOPLE say this a lot but it really is the best thing you can do. It’s hard starting out in this industry and it’s so easy to get thrown off track and get caught in the drama, negativity, and the hype especially. Sometimes you are your biggest support system so even if you start feeling like no one around you supports you like they should sometimes you have to be your biggest motivator.

What is one of your favorite ways to promote yourself and your music?
Social media. Twitter and Facebook are my main sources for promotion right now. Female rap blogs have been reaching out to me and are also a big source for promotion for me right now. My INSTAGRAM fan base is the largest out of all my social media. I think people just like looking at me mostly. I’m still building my presence on Reverbnation.

Bio

Laomi Devinci (born Airyonna Vincent in 1993 in Flint, MI) is a female rapper and singer. She grew up in a lower, middle class single-parent home on the north side of Flint, Michigan. With not much help starting out as an artist, it is Laomi’s talent, her passion and what she is mostly committed to that has lead her to the point she’s at today. Being her mother’s only child, Laomi Devinci grew up a bit socially awkward throughout much of her school years. She was picked on a lot as a kid and turned to writing songs for closure. She wrote a lot of poetry and sung but it wasn’t until middle school that she realized her passion for music was more efficient as a rapper. She has commented a lot about how soft her voice is and it was for that reason that she kept her musical ability a secret for so long. Because of embarrassment and the fear of not being taken seriously Laomi kept her musical ability hidden until the age of 16 when she started working on her first mix tape titled ‘Lip-gloss & 808s’that was released when she graduated from high school in 2011. At 17 Laomi Devinci didn’t have much direction pursuing her musical career and although the released project earned her immense street credibility the engineering quality of the project was considered mediocre. Lack of support and guidance early on in her career led to Laomi taking time off to study her craft and increase her resources her first two years of college. In July of 2013 Laomi released a freestyle to ASAP Rocky’s posse cut titled ‘1 Train’ and received state wide attention after releasing a video to the remix shot by Adam Da Prince. After linking up with the Production collective The Graduates in August of 2013, Laomi Devinci decided to put more dedication towards her music and potentially pursue production of a new project. Two months after forming her business relationship with The Graduates, Laomi released two promo singles produced by JR Hitmaker. One of which is a club and female favorite titled ‘Gold Rollie’ has caused her to receive a lot of recognition on the internet radio and magazine scene. Outside of performing in Flint and surrounding cities,
Laomi is currently planning her end of summer tour dates. Laomi is currently working on her debut mix tape titled ‘The DEVINCI Code’ that is set to release at the end of July 2014. Until the release of her mix tape, Laomi Devinci will be releasing freestyles and vlogs every week. The motivation is real and she is definitely destined for greatness. But now that she is climbing the musical latter all eyes are on her. Capturing a large audience at an underground level, her drive and dedication has placed her apart from other on the rise artist in her genre. Her topics and music inspirations come from real life experiences, past ones and current ones she is going through every day. Her rap style is a mixture of urban 90's hip-hop with a twist of modern freestyle flava. Despite her girly tomboyish persona Laomi is by far one of the most lyrical of them all. Laomi Devinci is a Lyricist, a Trendsetter, and very down-to-earth. It is guaranteed that she will soon stand with industry heavy weights.
