Review: We met Larry Lacerte at last year’s Durango Songwriters Expo and were impressed with his style. He has just released his first studio EP, and it has lived up to the standards he demonstrated at Durango. It is the perfect cross-over between Roots Rock, Americana and Country, and should do well in any of those formats. The songs are well crafted and feature the perfect country voice of Lacerte. We especially love the banjo on “Work of Love,” as well as the amazing slide guitar on “One More Whiskey.” “Love me Wrong” reminds us of a cross between Jason Aldean and Clint Black. He closes the all-too-short five-song EP with “Alone,” which reminds us many of our greatest accomplishments happen when we are forging our own way. We can’t wait for what’s next for this talented indie artist.

Larry Lacerte is a musician from Frisco, CO. Larry performs a diverse mix of cover songs and growing repertoire of originals as a solo artist and as a member of the band, Broke Down Rodeo. His latest release, Dreaming of the Ways, is his first full band studio EP. The album has a roots rock flavor and represents a few of his favorite original songs recorded with his band. His previous releases feature self recorded solo arrangements of his songs. WoodWork EP, his debut album, shows a folkier side with a touch of americana. Alone, has a bluesier vibe. Tailwinds represents some of his earliest songs while The Divine explores the human condition and good vs evil.
Larry’s journey in music all starts with a little red guitar and a hound dog dream. For his third birthday, Larry received a toy guitar and took to dressing up and strumming along to records of his parents favorite tunes. Elvis’s “Hound Dog” quickly became his favorite rocker foreshadowing musical aspirations to come. The little red guitar took quite a beating from imitating the guitar smashing rock stars of the day and could often be found in his grandfather’s workshop awaiting repairs. One day, Larry got a little carried away and the guitar was broken beyond repair. Larry’s musical dreams would lie dormant for a time reawakened by a middle school jazz band concert. Soon after, Larry got his first ‘real’ guitar and returned to music, fostering a passion that continues to grow.
In 2011, Larry moved to Frisco and started work Ski Patrolling at Copper Mountain. After a day on the slopes, Larry would get together with a few other patrollers to make some music and they soon formed their first band. ‘The Perseverators’ were named after a medical term for repeating the same thing over and over after hitting your head- a fitting nod to the band members' day jobs and the relatively small catalog of songs the group tended to play in the beginning. The band then became Larry and the Losers for a time before reforming as Broke Down Rodeo. The band consists of: Matt Lovas (guitar/vocals), Nick Slaton (drums), Bill Ryan (bass), John Burk (banjo/dobro/mandolin/vocals), Anna Welcher (lead vocals/guitar), and Larry Lacerte (guitar/vocals).
