Released in 2018, THE MANTLE OF SPIDERS is the debut release by New York’s Last Pharaoh. Their style is top-of-the-line power metal in the manner of Helstar, Shadowkeep and Forbidden. Although their lyrical themes include fantasy/horror and reality/horror, don’t expect any clichéd dungeons & dragons.
The best song is “Machinic Non-Conscience,” followed by “Jekyll and Hyde” and “The Headless Horseman.” “Desert Dreams” is an outstanding instrumental, speaking as one who doesn’t favor instrumentals.
There are 9 tracks clocking-in at just over 46 minutes, so the album doesn’t overstay its welcome.
