No secret that I'm huge advocate of high-speed rail (HSR) and public transportation in general. Since Obama has been in office, there has been much pushing by his administration and others towards developing a decent high-speed rail infrastructure, like yesterday's announcement for the White House asking for more funding. First night in Penonome was a huge success. One of staples of my pedal board is my Fulltone OCD, a dependable, solid overdrive pedal which if I could only have ONE pedal, the OCD would be hands down the pedal I would choose. The overdrive through this pedal sparkles and is super responsive whether it be full chords or single notes. The sound doesn't get muddy or mushy. Key to my sound. Discovered Rykarda Parasol's For Blood And Wine just yesterday via an interview with her on Delusions of Adequacy. An absolutely stunning and beautiful album, this San Francisco resident puts together a great collection of "rock-noir" songs. Dark, intense, thought-provoking lyrics. Like to give a huge shout out to another rock duo Rock'n Roll Suicides. We had the honor of playing with them at MeowMeowz up in Pasadena and these guys rock! Another attack of the duos! Portishead is probably best known for their single, "Sour Times", off their 1994 release Dummy. However, it's their comeback release in 2008, Third, that really got me intrigued and blew my mind. Third was one of my favorite releases from that year. The album is beyond stunning. Lost Cabras, being a relatively new band, has played some pretty great shows, not particularly odd at all. (Give it time!) However, in previous bands I've played in, we have played some pretty odd places. My old band, Cara de Nada, played a nursing home, not once, but TWICE! Last night, we laid down drum tracks for our first EP and the recording session when very well. Ricardo and I holed up in a secret location up in Mt. Washington by Eagle Rock, CA at our friend, Matt's studio.
