My friends, I want to share with you what’s going on in Love in October world this week. We’re preparing to enter the studio next week to track our first song for the new album. The song is called “Desperate” and is a dark Modest Mouse sounding song with a dance chorus that has a killer 70s ABBA bass line. We’ve been playing it live for about 6 months and fine tuning it, so maybe you’ve heard it?
Normally when we track well do drums first to a metronome and overdub instruments one at a time afterward. This time we’re doing things different. This song is all about the vibe so we’re going to track it live… everybody will play their instrument live in the room, just like in the olden days. Unfortunately, recording has become somewhat of a joke where musicians rely on producers/engineers to make them sound good and fix their sloppy playing with computers… hence the stale sounding songs you hear on the radio. For this album we’re going to do it old school and actually rely on good playing rather than good computer skills.
Another new thing for us is that we’re going to be tracking to analog tape. It’s kind of weird to have grown up in a digital age where you have never used a tape machine and you’re not use to simple things like rewinding. We’ll see how that goes. I’m excited about it.
We are re going to get a camera in a few days so we’ll be making videos and documenting the process of making this album and we’ll post it all here. So keep reading and leave us comments!
