"Current Magazine Highlight"

March of the Ant is a band full of love and expression and it’s apparent in their very presence on stage. With their modern and heartfelt lyrics, and badass musicianship, MOTA brings a certain vibe that is deep and passionate within an indie-progressive-rock envelope.

MOTA is fronted by Noah Borders, who is the lead guitarist and songwriter. Being the true poet that he is, says that In This Dark Modern Era, the band’s debut album, was several years in the making and represented for him his coming of age.

“When I have feelings that mean a lot to me, I try to immortalize them in music so I can summon them to share them with others who might be going through similar things,” Noah said.

”I want people to know that they are not alone, and to remind myself that I am not alone. It is the most pure way of having legitimate, intimate, and raw feelings together with another person. Being an adult is scary. At the same time, it's about getting over those feelings and knowing there is hope in being lost.”

March of the Ant plays Sunday June 7th at the Ugly Mug Cafe

Bio

March of the Ant is the shared human story of being a tiny being in a large and unintelligible world. MOTA was bred from the idea that, when a song is written, it immortalizes a feeling, which can then be shared with others via the vehicle of expression. The type of music that MOTA plays is kind of hard to explain with the go-to "indie-progressive-rock" description. Songwriter and eccentric guy Noah Borders calls the process in which he writes: "Poem Rock." This made-up genre is a way of briefly explaining that the music is written entirely around the words, with the focus on the energy and organic growth of the song. The songs are constantly changing, and rarely repeat. Touching on many different diverse sounds, the songs, they whirl you around in a hurricane, blast you off into space in violent upheaval, and then lay you down gently on a bed of soft sonic starlight.

Or, for the long winded version:

March of The Ant (MoTA for short) is a poem rock band forged in Ypsilanti, MI.

Poem rock is a sub-genre of progressive rock where the lyrics are written as a stand alone stream-of-consciousness poems, and the instrumentals are written to change with the rhythm and feel of each line. This means that our songs often have a less straight-forward structure, and any repetition represents a conscious choice of juxtaposition.

We play music because we fall in love   With something that cannot truly be described     When a song transcends the musicians who play it    To guide everyone in its presence into a beautiful place between realities      Where true love, compassion, understanding, and wisdom     Abolish the barriers of fear and hatred

This is where we dream of a better world     Looking from the outside in     Ego devoured completely by sensual harmonic consciousness     Tugging heart strings united; unconditionally     An effortless release of all of our suffering     Finally in touch with our own timelessness     Perfect and whole like a newborn child

Band History:

MoTA has been alive and kicking since 2012, but active since the winter of 2013/14 when we were lucky enough to record our first album with our talented producer friends at their studio. Our first show was an incredible experience at an ypsi underground venue called "Canada House." We went on a short hiatus while Noah went through a 1/3 life crisis, but we played shows here and there throughout that time and now we are playing 1-3 shows a month at grassroots venues/coop houses.

Band Vision: We want to share intense emotional moments, and increase the amount of emotional energy in people, wherever we are. We want to play for and with people who share respect for this critical understanding of music. We don't need big music business to help us worry about progress and money, because that's not what it's about. However we welcome all business ventures which strive to bridge the gap between economics and the ecology of world peace. We want to share a moment with you, and do our part to help you out. It's tough out there!

Where we are now: We are finishing post-production for our sophomore album called hope lies with a sweet goodbye, and we are SO EXCITED!
We want to keep building musical energy for more recording and merch-making by doing as many performances as possible!
