Yesterday morning Firefox provided an update. I installed the update and took a look at the changes – something I often neglect to do. I saw something listed called TAB GROUPS. Wow! Pretty cool. Check out this video that demonstrates what they are and how to use them. (read more)

The Studio, The Stage, and Elsewhere

An update for August 1, 2011 I used to hate recording. The truth is I find it tedious although it has become more pleasurable. First, having the guys at Easy Street Studio in Simi Valley, CA handle all the technical details is nice. But anyway you cut it, the studio is NOT the stage. We have some shows coming up Friday, May 20th, at The Red Cove. We are playing with two heavy funk jam bands – The Hours Before & Jam Stain. How about, "Coffee, Kids, and Rock & Roll!" During a recent chat with my friend, Marc, a consultant in Salt Lake City, I was excited about our show the night prior and said, "I’m a Rock Star!" Couple songs with my band

Here are a couple songs on video from our recent gig at the Simi Valley Town Center Farmer’s Market. I really want a new video camera. The external mic on mine – as with many camcorders – filters audio based on the most prominent noise. So.. conversations closer to the camera can filter out louder noises further away and more distinct sounds – like my lead guitarist’s tones – jump out… (read more)

Sheesh!!! Last month, the Good Hurt in Venice was shut down because 5 blocks in Venice had their electricity knocked out by the storms in Southern California. We drove down to the venue only to find a darkened and empty street. We are rescheduled at The Good Hurt on February 25th, 9PM. Last night – while preparing to perform in Ventura, the unnamed venue had the health department close them down.… (read more)

We have gone to streaming video as a way to bring our music to more listeners. It is also nice to have friends and family tune in and interact via chat. But alas, it is not without its challenges. I posted on twitter that in songwriting Formula and feel were both important. Ill always remember a full-time songwriter catching me as I walked off stage at a songwriter showcase, pointing his finger in my chest, and saying, "You could make a living with songs like that!!" Or the time at the gym in Anthem last year when a guy walked up and said, "Are you Matt Moran, the songwriter? My wife and I have seen you up in Cave Creek. We love that Mexico song. If you are a performing songwriter, couple things you should check out. First, Artistdata.com. I spoke to the founder last week- sharing what I love and some things they will be introducing. If nothing else, a way to get your calendar updated across multiple platforms is awesome. But they have more coming down the pipe. Tutorial ' Recording basics ' your scratch track

This is a simple tutorial on recording a scratch track. A scratch track is a rough track ' guitar (and vocals as we shall see) that you play to your basic drum or click track. Next Coffee Company  Two pictures from my show at Next Coffee Company, last Friday. It was a great show and I sold a few CDs and added to the mailing list. Yesterday, between recording some music, a songwriter named Joe Iadanza twitted about a live streaming house concert he was performing at. The folks at Sonic Underground arranged this and at various times there were between 8 and 10 people online watching Joe perform.  Here is their UStream channel.
