About Maybe Not Even

Maybe Not Even is a two-man outfit comprised of singer/rhythm guitarist Jeff K and lead guitarist D.J. Rocco. Hailing from Annapolis, Maryland, the two plug into their influences like The Beatles and Stevie Ray Vaughan to produce their own unique blend of acoustic rock and blue-eyed soul. The duo each began their musical odyssey at an early age. Jeff K was a classically trained pianist and violinist before he picked up the guitar at age thirteen. The Seattle Grunge scene of the early 90’s heavily influenced his early song writing, but it is songs from artists like singer/song writer John Mayer and The Dave Matthews Band that have been a bigger influence on his more recent works. D.J. started playing the saxophone in elementary school and continued through middle school, but it wasn’t until age fourteen that he bought his first guitar. Throughout high school D.J. was influenced by many different genres of music, but it was from listening to such artists as Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, and Stevie Ray Vaughan that have given D.J. his prolific blues-rock sound that is the foundation of Maybe Not Even’s music. The two first meet in February of 2005 when D.J. joined a Pop rock band that Jeff had formed in Baltimore, MD. They honed their talent for performing by living in a house together and practicing in their living room. After touring the Baltimore region for nearly three years, differences in the bands style would lead to a break-up of their band and ultimately left Jeff and D.J. wondering what to do next with their careers. They decided their music needed to go in a more mature direction, which would soon give rise to Maybe Not Even. It started off in the living room as just two guys jamming, but they soon realized that it could be something much bigger. After a year of couch performances and party jam sessions, Jeff and D.J. decided it was time to start getting serious. They went into the studio to record an eight track EP entitled “It Could Happen,” and continued to duplicate this CD with the help of graphic designer Dan Rogers. With a solid CD to promote, they began playing weekly shows at The Sly Fox Pub in downtown Annapolis. Their efforts proved fruitful as they met Adam and Scott, owners of T.U.N. Records. They were offered to play a showcase for the label and took advantage of their good fortune by rocking the house. T.U.N. approached the duo with a record contract and the label has helped launch the group’s musical careers. |
