So many ways I could start this post.I could draw attention to the fact that its kind of late, considering I usually update in the early part of the week...BUT no one reads these, no one has complained, so it makes no difference either way. I could moan about the fact that I've been ill most of the week, and am currently back in work, although due to a fuzzy head, the world looks and sounds like I'm wearing a goldfish bowl. But pish! and tish! Enough wallowing. This week, npf have been mostly... ...doing our first gig in renowned Swansea venue, The Uplands Tavern. Was very much my local pub for some time, except I hardly ever used to go there (not much of a social animal). Mudjack very kindly asked us if we'd like to do a set to support them, and despite having the beginnings of a bug (sore throat, bad head, etc), I was dosed up on First Defence and throat pastilles, and we got through the set. We were received as best as could be expected - the Tav is a bit schizophrenic in as much as it feels as much an old man's pub as much as it feels like a happening student venue. Having said that, Aly, the manager (I think) was complimentary about our set, and was kind enough to book us again for Tuesday 22nd September. Students will be back en masse by then, and there's a chance I could be bug free by then, so npf will be able to tear up the Tav, big style (or something). We'd obviously upset the gods of practice, because at Tuesday's rehearsal at Pez's Abertawe Studio room (myspace.com/abertaweroadstudios) - first of all one of my bass strings broke (again), but more worryingly Gareth's head developed a nasty fault that took it out of action. On the plus side, we effectively finished off the music for a brand new song called 'Turn the radio up', which, despite its title has quite an uncomfortable lyrical theme. Or at least it will have when I finish writing them. My recent dry writing spell shows signs of clearing, slowly...I've been able to write quite a bit over the last week. Unfortunately my output all looks like drivel to me at the moment, but the fact that I have been writing SOMETHING is encouraging. And at least I have something to REwrite, rather than nothing at all. The end of the month should be fun; we have our appearance at BRFM Radio's music festival in Ebbw Vale (Sat 29th 7:30pm), and on the Sunday, due to another band dropping out, we'll be performing as part of the Uplands Music Festival! The Uplands Music Festival is now in its 10th year, and has got more acts and styles of music than you can shake a stick at. We're playing in The Garage at 7pm (ish). We'll hopefully get at least one new song in the set for then! I think that's all for now... Dim nineplanfailed |
