HURTS

Posted By from July 29, 2009

Ok, so you catch me in the middle of a creative drought. Which is annoying, frustrating, irratating...and even a little painful.

Please forgive my 'tortured artist' moans in this posting. I think a combination of work, weather, and hitting a creative drought is taking its toll. Time to take some time off work (to spend in the beautiful British summer).

It is a killer though. We have the beginnings of four or five really interesting sounding tracks, and I'm finding it impossible to write any lyrics at the moment. Argh! I've tried to remember the mental process that I've used to write all the other songs over the years, but on this occasion, it eludes me. Not only eludes me, but also steals all my booze, gets off with my sister and flicks me the v-sign as it stays just out of reach.

Enough moans. Can't remember what I wrote in last blog post (I could check, but where would the fun be in that?), so apologies if there is some repetition. Some repetition. Some repetition

Well, we took part in our rescheduled heat for the Gosham Productions Battle of the Bands. Despite me not 'feeling it' on the night, I guess we must've been doing something right, as we were put through to the grand final, which takes place this coming Monday (the 3rd August).

We're up against The Unit, Nucleus, No Obligation and The Effects. The winners will be decided by audience vote apparently, so should be interesting. Oh yes, whilst I remember, our good friend Matt Knott had his camera on him and recorded the intro and our first song of the set, 'Perfect'. You can view said footage on youtube:

On the night before the final, we're playing our first gig in Newport's Le Pub. It seems to be quite a happening venue, so it will be good to finally set foot there. I have a feeling that it will be a very small audience (is it being promoted? Even if it is, who in Newport would actively seek outnineplanfailed doing their thing?) - but maybe, just maybe there is a healthy passing trade in Le Pub on Sunday nights.

At least we'll have company. I was able to invite two other Swansea bands to play with us;

Laura's Diary - www.myspace.com/laurasdiaryofficial
The Effects - www.myspace.com/theeffectsuk

I'm not going to try to describe either band's sound, that's what the myspace links are there for...check them out!

Finally, we have our second recording session this coming Saturday morning. We're going to attempt to get the guitar parts down, and hopefully some bass and/or vocals. These damned demo tracks WILL be completed one day!
