Last night...Posted By Dim from March 11, 2010...as we walked into the venue, Lungmen were just finishing their set. Unfortunately Nathan and I weren't able to get to the venue till just gone 9pm, so we'd already missed Eject Pilot Eject doing their thing - but having played with them earlier in the year, we knew them and their sound. A shame we didn't get to see them play, but we know that we'll see them again soon... I'd listened to Lungmen on myspace earlier in the day, and apart from really digging their grunge/trip-rock (my description, not theirs), was great to see them in the flesh. Is it just me, or do the vocals have a Alex Kapranos-esque sound to them? Following the Lungmen, Conductors took the stage. All of the bands playing last night were three piece outfits (including us), and it was really great to hear the different sounds being blasted out by them throughout the evening. Conductors displayed some impressive drumming, rock solid bass playing, and an intense performance from guitarist/vocalist Aled. The evening was put together by the Death Monkey Records lads, and despite the audience being in single figures, it was a hell of a night. Don't get me wrong, this isn't a 'you all suck for not coming to gigs' rant - its really not. Hell, it takes a lot to get me to leave the inner sanctum of my dwelling of an evening - I can hardly give anyone else a hard time for doing the same. But last night, thanks to Death Monkey, there were some awesome acts playing, and it was a real shame that their wasn't an audience to appreciate them. I don't think it made a real difference to any of the bands and their members, if anything, it made it a really social event where we all were able to appreciate what how we were trying to express ourselves. I have high hopes for Death Monkey. If you haven't listened to their podcasts yet, do yourself a favour...download them NOW! |
