Really a week since last blog post? REALLY?
A great week for us - we played to the small but perfectly formed audience at 'The Loft', supporting 'The Effects' as part of Adam Avit's night.
'The Effects', despite appearing to have a combined age of 12, were able to produce a full, exciting sound - due in no small part to their Jonny Greenwood-like guitarist. To have a sound this rounded for such a young band...makes me sick to the pit of my stomach! But seriously, I hope they stick together, I'd love to hear them in a couple of years when they've tasted the filthy cock of fate that this world often throws up. To hear their sound with some genuine grief, anguish and torment might be a thing to behold.
But what's this? Far too much talk of the competition in a npf blog. Let's talk about our perfomance at 'The Loft'. The good news is we really seem to be at a point where we're able to relax and enjoy ourselves a little during the set. I guess its inevitable, but having hit our fifth gig this week, we do seem to be gelling nicely.
This also seemed to be the case on Saturday, when we found ourselves on the back of an arctic lorry, playing to a carpark full of Nantyglo's finest. As part of the RFC's summer fete, we offered to help provide entertainment on the day. In retrospect, I'm not sure if band/venue/audience entirely suited each other...but no bricks or glasses were thrown, and we enjoyed ourselves, so I'll put that one down as a 'win'!
FINALLY...when in a playing band, you're often told of possibilities that may or may not come to pass. Sometimes they're nothing more than the imaginations of Billy Blagger, sometimes they actually happen. Pez (not that I'm suggesting for one second that HE'S in the Billy Blag category) - our friendly neighbourhood recording/rehearsal studio guy, asked if we'd like him to put our names forward to play Tircoed Village Fete (he's been contacted by the organiser).
Tircoed Village Fete is a local mini music festival, and local ROCK legends 'Buffalo Kings' (amongst others) are confirmed to play.
This would be a great coup, with a potentially massive crowd, so everyone - start crossing your fingers, toes, anything that might help this happen...
Till next time -
