Rollie Rupp and his bandmates, Martin McGinnis, Mike Reardon, and Jay Adamczek perform a tribute to Black Sabbath and Ozzy Osborne
Originally a classic rock cover band called “Anthology”, Rupp, McGinnis and Reardon played for about four years before they started including a set dedicated solely to Black Sabbath and Ozzy. Rupp donned a wig and glasses and really played up the British front man. He says the crowd loved it so much, that when they lost their bass player, the remaining three decided to change the band’s name to Paranoid and become a full tribute band.
“We had to remake ourselves,” says Rupp. “When I sing, my voice sounds a lot like Ozzy’s, and once we saw that people wanted to hear the songs, we got to work learning the songs.”
The group, now named after Black Sabbath’s fourth album, has about forty covers in their repertoire so they are able to give different crowds a good variety and they play all over the local area, roughly once a month. Rupp stresses that they aren’t just about standing up there and playing, but rather about putting on a full performance, which includes, of course, the Prince of Darkness and all of his signature maneuvers.
