"R & R World ArenaCast Episode 46"

About the song "Coal Miner's Daughter"...
It’s not a sad song, but it’s defiantly not a happy song. It’s called “Coal Miner’s Love Song” and it has a lot of relevance to what’s been happening recently… This song..is the viewpoint of father who is a miner and he’s talking to his son and he’s just kind of telling him how tough life is as a miner and working in the mines and he’s telling his son don’t do it’s not worth it, if it you can do bigger things in life, safer things, But it’s very interesting and very well done..very laid back, kind of folky country song..It is a great song an there’s a very powerful message in it and the singer has a very good tone with it” - R & R World

Bio

"Hard Dirt Americana..."

"...like a cross between a darker Steve Earle and the Old Crow Medicine Show"...and some drunk biker at the bar....

Jeb Barry: acoustic guitars, songs
Mike O'Neill: mandolin
Ernie Barufa: bass

Past Members: Adnaan Stumo: fiddle

Note: If you check us out..please listen to the music....which is sparse, sometimes dark, melodic, americana....all recorded LIVE with one or two mics and NO computers or enhancements.

Led by award winnig songwriter Jeb Barry, Pawn Shop Saints play their self-described "Hard Dirt Americana" that has a sparser, harder, and darker rural feel than most Americana genres. Think along the lines of Welch/Rawlings, but with a dose of Steve Earle for an edge. These are no light, silly folk songs my friend!

Jeb Barry, from the 1980s-1990s power pop group The Typicals, is back after several years of solo projects with the Americana-folk-alt country group, Pawn Shop Saints. With a new batch of dozens of new songs, PSS began performing and recording in June 2010.

(As The Typicals, Jeb received major label interest and toured the northeast, playing theaters, colleges, and clubs such as the Rat in Boston and CBGB's. For more info, see www.myspace.com/the1990typicals)

Barry has written over 3000 songs in his career and has had over 10,000 downloads and listens from his solo efforts. ONeil is a multi- instrumentalist, songwriter, and studio owner.

The result is a sparse, melodic, acoustic sound not often heard in the contemporary Americana genre.

All recording were done live with little or no overdub. Often the songs are recorded live with two microphones, usually in one take, and they include mistakes and all are included.
No computers, Pro Tools, or Auto tuners are used, nor will they ever be. What you hear is a realness often missing from so many current artists.
