"NEW VIDEO: PHZD – “MIND$ET”"

Flint-based artist/producer duo PhZD returns with the visual for their latest single “Mind$et.”
Directed by Malcolm Cottle, the video stars Danielle Parks who plays a young woman juggling college and a social life while falling behind on time and bills.
“It tells a story of a young woman who claims she wants to make money and be a boss but does everything to contradict herself.” – PhZD

"Flint, MI Based Rap Duo PhZD Shares Their New Video "Mind$et""

PhZD, a duo based out of Flint, Michigan treat music as an art form. They focus on using their experience to craft emotionally charged music that is simple, but hardly simplistic. Most of the time the music they release can be categorized as ‘Hip-Hop/Rap’ but PhZD refuses to be limited by a genre. The duo refuses to play it safe with their music and tries to push the envelope with every track that they create. The two of them create everything that you hear without anyone else getting involved in the process. This isolates them in a way that allows their sound to grow independent of their local music scene and dynamic/chemistry to develop more and more every hour they spend in the studio. They are a force to be reckoned with as the journey the soundscape of music.

The Flint duo just released new visuals for their track “Mind$et”, directed by Malcolm Cottle, and starring Danielle Parks, who plays a young woman juggling college and a social life while falling behind on time and bills. This subject matter isn’t typically addressed in today’s Hip-Hop music, but it’s relevant as a lot of people can relate to the struggle!

"PHZD – IMPULZ ALBUM REVIEW: PENSIVELY RHYTHMIC URBAN AMBIENCE"

If you’re a fan of ambiently chill Hip Hop, you’re going to need to check out phZD’s latest album Impulz. Each of the 16 tracks is as transient as the last. Putting a pin on phZD’s style is almost impossible due to their refusal to be limited by genre. Their soundscape pushes against every musical boundary known to man to create their electrically charged, high vibe tracks. Whilst there is great diversity in style in the album, there’s no disputing that the two rap artists pour their heart and soul into every mix. The Flint, Michigan based duo, may be emerging now, but I have no doubt their cinematic approach to their sound will see them going far in the industry. Their dynamic approach creates a synergy that has simply never been mixed before. I hear a lot of urban music from emerging artists, and I mean a lot. Yet I have never stumbled across a sound as pensively rhythmic as the tracks from phZD’s album.

You can check out phZD’s self-produced 2018 album Impuz on Spotify now, expect a lot of emotion, depth, and pure aural alchemy from the PhZD.

"Impulz | Phzd"

"Dirty Water but the Bars Clean"

On March 16, the upcoming duo Phzd released their newest project called Impulz. This album is the nest of so many different genres. The variety in this project is so wide but ironically that’s what makes this album a distinct project.

Throughout the course of the album, the artist Phill gave so many different sounds and melodies. Hopping from genre to genre; from rapping to singing - undoubtedly proved his talent on the music level. The deliveries throughout the album gave essence of a Kid Cudi or Anderson .Paak (in terms of how his voice sounds against the music). Given that the music game is all about labels right now, (i.e. pop, mumble rap, conscious rap, trap music) this project is unique because it’s give us a little bit of everything. This brings me to the production on the album.

Although Phill does a lot by switching flows, the producer, Ben, was right there step-for-step with him making fire of his own. At the album release party, the producer broke down how the album is a four-part play concept that resembles the feels of each season. With that in mind it explains why the album is so versatile and feels like it’s covering all bases. The chemistry and musical understanding between this producer/artist combo is very special and reminds me of what the Toronto R&B duo dvsn was able to accomplish over time. The cohesiveness of the content, tone, and beats would be impressive on every level of music.

Overall this is a project about a growing artist who had found himself in a broken city, Flint, Michigan - profound expression at its finest. My favorites on the album are “Nxworries”, “Mind$et” and “Why You Leave”. Listen to whole album here. - Indigo

"ALBUM ALERT: PHZD – IMPULZ"

Flint, MI duo PhZD presents their latest album effort, IMPULZ, that blends elements of experimental rap and R&B to create a fresh, original sound with an out-the-box subject matter.
Capturing the essence of a creative’s fleeting yet in-depth thought-process, the two artists delve into countless moments of artistic exploration and self-reflection on the 16-track project.
The energetic, airy soundscape throughout IMPULZ gives the album an edgy vibe that’s consistent and much-needed in this current climate of music that’s swamped with trappy tunes.
Highlights on the album include “Nxworries” that drips with infectious harmonies over production that impressively builds, and “T1 (It’s About Time)” that’s an erratic, bouncy joyride laced with aggressively smooth vocals.
Definitely worth checking out, stream IMPULZ below on Spotify and on the streaming service of your choice here. - The Dope Show
