About Potluck

Humboldt County hiphop

At first glance, the pairing of a giant African-American and tiny Jewish white guy is perhaps an unlikely unit by commercial standards. This team is no anomaly though and together the team of 1 Ton and UnderRated create some of the most magnetic musical chemistry. The duo's unique combo of syrupy beats, neck-snapping rhymes and blue collar work ethic have earned them a position as one of hip-hop's most impressive up-and-comers. It all began while battling one another at a DJ competition. Over time, they would join forces and make the jump from behind the tables, to producing beats, to rocking the microphones with a series of independent releases (2001’s Humboldt County High and 2004’s Harvest Time) that became instant underground classics. In 2006 the group joined forces with Suburban Noize Records and went on to release “Straight Outta Humboldt” and “Pipe Dreams”

When it comes to creating their music Potluck has literally built there sound from the ground up. They aided in the construction of there own studio, They researched and bought all of there own studio equipment, The learned how to hook it up and work it all on there own, They do all of the engineering and recording work themselves, UnderRated also produces a majority of the beats, does all of the DJ work, is heavily involved in the Mixing Process and also works directly with the Mastering Engineer. This is what makes Potluck’s sound so unique and truly themselves.

Potluck takes their message directly to the people. They have performed on sold-out tours across the nation with Tech N9ne, E-40, Twiztid, D12, and Kottonmouth Kings. As well as countless regional shows with Snoop Dogg, Too Short, Kool Keith, Atmosphere, Ben Harper, Ice Cube, Dialated Peoples, Murs, Jurassic 5, Sean Paul, The Coup, Xzibit, Raekwon, etc… If you have yet to see Potluck live it is a very diverse and entertaining hip-hop show.

In addition to finding new levels of success with Potluck, UnderRated has become one of the most in demand producers in the underground hip-hop world. In addition to his own material, UnderRated’s musical contributions can be heard on new albums from Tech N9ne, Kottonmouth Kings, Twiztid, Blaze and the solo album from Sen Dog from Cypress Hill. During the month of September 2007, UnderRated had contributed beats to four albums that were charting on Billboard's Top 100 Rap albums.

Label Potluck whatever you want; backpack rap or simply straight-up hip-hop. Any way you evaluate it, Potluck’s musical potpourri re-ignites an otherwise extinguished hip-hop game with lyrical depth, rapid fire flows and head nodding beats like the game was supposed to have all along. Equipped with a grassroots campaign, unwavering perseverance, and the development of a solid fan base, Potluck is again out to demonstrate a pipe dream can become reality, even in the face of unconventionality.
