"THE ARIZONA MUSIC SCENE DESERVES RECOGNITION: WHAT SHOULD WE DO?"

There is a lot of talent in the state of Arizona. From artists like Tommy Will, Vee Tha Rula, Marquel Deljuan, JusXJustice, Delly Everyday, and Dann G, or groups like 20 Pounds, Vibe Lane, Prime Society, and Swag Kingz, the Arizona music scene covers a wide variety of styles. This is not an exclusive list (Arizona definitely has a longer list of talent).

With so much talent here in the state, it seems that we wait year after year for Arizona to gain the recognition it deserves. Artists will make songs, the artist’s fans, friends, and family will listen and make comments and give the artist props, and then it seems that’s the end of it until the next song. Repeat cycle. Support between artist exists, but it’s not as strong as it needs to be.

The rest of the country won’t rock with us if we don’t rock with us! Arizona artists should take the time out to share & like the work of other artists if they like their work. The Arizona music scene should have a Twitter presence. Many people sharing, liking, retweeting, and commenting about a song, project, or performance on Twitter will help it spread or trend. The Arizona music scene would have a stronger online presence, which leads to more potential for each artists to receive recognition outside of the state.

It doesn’t cost anything, but has a tremendous upside. We all know that AZ is way too active. Now it’s time to show everyone else. What do you think? - BirdCityView

"Prime Society"

Tell us everything will need to know about you.
Prime Society is a hip-hop group centered in Phoenix, Arizona since 2016. The group’s core consists of brothers Infin8 and J. Reid as well as lead producer Gage Green. Infin8 and J. Reid have been devoted to their love of music since their early days performing a variety of instruments at their father’s church. The group’s members have sustained a commitment to improving their musical knowledge throughout their lives. J. Reid inspired by his passion as a guitarist went on to college to study music in 2014, while Gage also sought to enhance and prove his musical abilities in school at the age of 17. They have structured their group to reflect this deep understanding of music.
Still continuing to build on their multitude of skills, Prime Society embodies what it means to be a lifelong advocate for well-rounded musical intelligence. The group’s music aims to unite sounds of the past with their own exclusive sound to produce a unique energy to the hip-hop community.
The group’s latest single, “POMW”, was released in January 2018 and has been praised by many for its distinct production by Gage Green and spirited lyrics from J. Reid and Infin8.
.
.
.
State your favourite genre of music and your reason.
Reid: Blues- I love the blues because it lets the artists express themselves without always singing. Jimi Hendrix and BB king can make a guitar say more than a person can. I love old soul too, Marvin Gaye, Otis Redding, Ray Charles and James Brown.
Infin8: R&B/Soul – most songs were created to uplift and alter your mood. It’s easy to turn around a bad day with some ‘01 Usher.
.
.
.
Tell us your experience as a musician.
Infin8: I grew up classically trained in piano and picked up a couple wind instruments over time. I took all my teaching and experiences and fused them with hip-hop.
Reid: Same here, Infin8 forgot to mention we also grew up in the church. We were lead musicians in our dad’s church when we were like 9 and 10. I played drums and Miles was the pianist.
.
.
.
Tell us the theme of your song.
Infin8: it’s really just a flex song, people really act like they forget we’ve done…guess we needed a reminder.
Reid: I’d say the same. Basically “POMW” is a track just about Gold jewelry. Because I love gold. Only gold jewelry.
.
.
.
Name the people behind your success and thank them on this platform.
Infin8: My parents, my brother and Keith Joiner.
Reid: My dad, Infin8, Keith Joiner and Gage.
.
.
.
Tell us about your future goals.
Infin8: Well since my siblings never supported me, I’ll win 100 Grammys and add them all to my family tree.
Reid: Just to be the greatest artist ever. To make sure I can grow exponentially with music. 100 Grammys would be nice too, but really just about making the best product I could make with the right resources.
.
.
.
Go into detail about your opinion on religion and politics.
Infin8: My dad is a pastor and I was raised really religious, I don’t go to church often anymore but that’s because it’s instilled in me. I think religion is about your relationship with whatever “higher power” you believe in, not necessarily your church. Politics don’t really attract me, I know that whoever gets in is going to do things beneficial to them and there’s always an ulterior motive for every move made.
Reid: I don’t really care about “politics” but I care a lot about social issues. I guess I’m for the people, for the little man and for equality. I believe in God. I’m as religious as I can be for a rapper but it doesn’t mean I’m closed minded. I respect other people’s beliefs, just like I feel others should respect mine.
.
.
.
Elaborate on how you think your music is inspiring your fans.
Reid: We don’t really have fans, but we hope our music can inspire our future fans who have a creative passion to keep creating and keep pushing and no matter where you’re from you can make it happen.
.
.
.
Explain the changes you have observed so far in the music industry.
Reid: A lot of new weirdo rappers. Gimmicks.
Infin8: I’ve seen an emergence of artists able to curate their own fan bases and tours without the “help” of major labels; more or less I’ve grown up in the era of internet rap.
.
.
.
State the artists you cherish most and your reason.
Infin8: Kanye West, Mariah Carey and Usher.
Reid: I’ll just say JAY-Z. He’s incredible because nobody has just done only what they’re good at and grown like him. Jay never changed his rap style, never tried to sing, never tried to change genres. He just rapped an album after album; it kept selling. He was in his twenties watching a 19 year old NAS (from the same city) blew up and Jay couldn’t even get a decent record deal. He was 26 when he made his own label and 22 years later he’s the richest man in hip-hop. God bless JAY-Z.

.
.
.
Elaborate on how you develop your lyrics.
Infin8: really most of my lyrics come from real life experiences, so it’s really just finding a way to convey those events everyone goes through in a way no one has expressed.
Reid: All my lyrics just come from whatever tune or flow comes to my head. I fill in that tune with lyrics and then tie them all together. So basically I’ll hum or mumble through a track and then then next time just start writing lyrics.
.
.
.
Tell us if you enjoy collaborating with other artists or just singing as a solo artist.
Infin8: nah. Prime.
Reid: It just depends on how much ego is there. I like working with artists who want to build something WITH you. A lot of artists just want things done their way, but that’s not the point of collaborating.
.
.
.
Brief us your opinion on making music that makes people to dance or making the kind of music with genuine message that inspires them.
Reid: All music with rhythm will make people dance. Sad songs will get a different dance than happy/fast songs. The most difficult thing to do is inspire people. I think a lot of inspiration is fake that we hear in music now. The only time I’ve ever inspired someone through music; it’s at my own expense. My life situations and how I dealt with them is what inspires others. True inspiration comes at a cost.
Infin8: Dance songs are fun because everybody dances…but I could never make a dance song. I mean how do you gain respect from your peers when you’re seen as the “dance song rapper”.
.
.
.
Discuss the impact of a Performing Rights Organization.
Reid: I had to google it but it seems pretty important because I want to get paid when possible.
.
.
.
Elaborate on how you develop your melody and instrumentation.
Reid: Whenever I make a beat, it really just comes from a sample, or just messing around on the keyboard. Sometimes it’s just complete randomness that develops into a beat. Just playing a guitar riff or a piano chord can send me into a beat making binge.
.
.
.
Go into detail on the recording process of this song.
Reid: We usually just get our verses together and start recording. We hate recording to be honest; it sometimes ruins the creative feeling. We don’t do our mixing or mastering anymore, we’ll pay someone to do everything for us, because we want to JUST be artists.
.
.
.
Discuss your music performance.
Reid: I’m not sure if I’m answering this right, but I’m classically trained in piano. My best instrument is the guitar. I love playing bass the most. I can also play drums, French horn and harp.
Infin8: I’m more classically trained in piano than J is haha. I played saxophone in grade school and trombone.
.
.
.
Tell us how you will rate yourself as an artist.
Reid: Great all around artist. With unlimited potential haha. There’s no ceiling for us as artists. If rapping doesn’t work, I’ll be a blues guitarist or a rock bassist or drummer. I’ll just produce beats if all else fails. 11 out of 10. 6 stars. - Broad Tube Music Channel

"先生SENSEI RELEASE: PRIME SOCIETY - 'ACADEMY'"

Today, we get to help showcase Prime Society's latest release entitled 'Academy' - a real Charlie-Browns'-Christmas kind of beat with underground lyrics and style. Taking a more conscious approach, Infin8 raps about what it takes and what work will have to be done in order to make it in the music industry. Behind the production, Gage Green and J. Reid put together a jazz piano melody that flows just as smooth as the lyrics.

Lastly, if you're diggin' what Prime Society is up to - make sure you throw them a follow on their social media links and stay up to date with their releases as they drop. Seems like they could be a cool crew to keep an eye on over the next few years. You'll find everything you need and the stream to 'Academy' down below! Enjoy! - ERIK FEDORENCHIK (Sensei)

"5@5: A morning playlist featuring Prime Society, Realname McCoy, and more"

Prime Society – POMW
Prime Society is a group from Phoenix, Arizona. They’ve been around since 2016. I don’t know much about them yet, but I do like the piss yellow reference on the hook. It’s scorching hot in Arizona, so the shorts make sense. Personally, I liked the song toward the end of the split video more than the first. I enjoyed the lyrical delivery and the piano work. Watch the new video for POMW directed by Caleb Ragatz below. - Grungecake

"Prime Society "POMW""

Phoenix-based rap collective Prime Society, are made of brothers Infin8 and J. Reid, with production held down by Gage Green. Fresh off inking a deal with Warner the trio bless the world with their newest release titled “POMW.” The production is very dope, with very solid rhymes and delivery. Watch the music video for the single above. - EliteMuzik

"5@5: A morning playlist featuring S’natra, The Sorority, and more"

The sentiment continues with the Phoenix-native group Prime Society’s “Academy”. Not only does the song have a beat that I can imagine Drake dancing to, but they shout out the Academy. - Grungecake

"Az Electic 126"

Today we learn about a musician who has been making music for longer than he remembers. An eclectic talent with a numerous amount of instruments that he plays as he produces his own music is definitely something to be recognized. - Az Electic
