Randy Hock
Randy began playing Soul and Blues with recording artists
professionally in 1965 after he won a band contest in Miami and
played for President Johnson's reception at the Dupont Plaza Hotel.
That year he worked with recording artist Billy Miranda as well as
Soul Band members Jazz Bo Brown – guitar, formerly with Percy
Sledge; Eddie Hope – drums, formerly with
Roy Orbison and Al Colson - tenor sax, formerly
with Little Richard. While with the
group Randy had the good fortune to play
with the late legend Les Paul.
While living in Chicago from 1966 to
1970 he was bass player for legend and
Blues Hall of Famer Lonnie Brooks and also
played with Mothers Finest, Ronnie
(Skeets) Anderson (guitar - Sam Cooke),
and Ray Parrish (guitar - Elvin Bishop).
Hock was band leader of the original Soul
Survivors (Baby Huey’s rhythm section)
and worked with Sammy Fender (guitar -
Bobby Womack) and drummer Rick Howard
(Rodan). Circa 1994 in Tampa Bay Randy
founded the Tampa Bay Blues Machine featuring
Nitro Boseman on vocals/Blues harp. The Bluesman has
played three Blues festivals including the Tampa Bay Blues Fest and
opened for Diamond Teeth Mary and Rock Bottom. More recently
Mr. Hock has played the Opening Season Party for The Tampa Bay
Bucs and joined BMI as a Songwriter. On August 20th, 2009, Randy
recorded "The Texas Holdem Blues” which started getting airplay
Sept 16th. On September 27th the DJ for Blues on the Bay
live365.com notified him that the song reached the top 2% on that
station and was doing well on others. On March 8th, 2010, Randy
“Bluesman” Hock was inducted into the Blues Hall of Fame as The
Ambassador to Tampa. A well-deserved honor indeed! - Suncoast Blues Society, 12 bar Rag
