About Rich Batsford
Birmingham
acoustic
Rich Batsford is establishing himself as one of the most exciting emerging pianist composers in the UK with performances of his hypnotic and beguiling piano music. Within a minimalist framework, the music evokes the richness of French composers such as Satie, Debussy or Ravel combined with elements of post-rock and downtempo electronica. Although meditative in overall tone, the set reaches powerful and intense climaxes. “Utterly spell-binding” Birmingham Post. Since 2006 Rich has "quietly built a following for his melodic and magical compositions" Birmingham Post Rich has also begun performing songs in acoustic evenings, playing original material alongside occasional covers from his two main songwriting influences - Brian Wilson and Paul Simon. He is now headlining many local gigs and playing further afield in 2009. "contemporary pianist virtuoso" The Line of Best Fit "somewhere between Esbjorn Svensson and ErikSatie, its very easy to enjoy." Mixmaster Morris "emotive classical piano compositions. Playing to a crowd of incredibly-attentive leather-clad metal fans added a hint of the surreal to his set of hypnotic melodies and powerful, booming chords, but this could not distract from the calibre of his musicianship." 4 Talent Magazine "Pianist Richard Batsford mesmerised the audience with beautiful arpeggiated soundscapes" Whats On in Brum "a true highlight of the Birmingham avant garde scene" bandweblogs.com
