I Miss You Records announces: A Moment RieMixed

Fresh out of the sea… the Ocean of sadness, check out the new "RieMixes" to A Moment You Never Dreamed. And true to not what one would expect, Rie created a few more acoustic versions to her favorite songs from the album.

Starting 1/18 twenty-eleven, the contest to create the best mix of "Victoria" is on! To celebrate, She's also setting free stems to the featured RieMixes, "Island Of Hope" & "Ocean Of Sadness [Neptune's Bed]". Link to Rie's Soundcloud Page Here to listen to the originals & mixers can follow the links to the stems.

"The concept came about because I really felt this album has a lot more to say. I'm starting a kickstarter campaign for another music video, but last year there wasn't much of a budget to work with. I believe I just found myself in my blue room with a week all to myself & opened up the Easy To Fail session & started slicing it up like I was lost in a kitchen. I flipped beats, cut up parts, & just became scientific about arranging it some other way.   After a week, I met up with the original mixer to bounce the new arrangement down through his gear.  We started talking about getting stems for live performance, and then working on another remix together… one thing lead to another & next I called a few other friends to get involved for fun.

I've been writing & recording electronic tracks with several other producers for a while; I'd like to release something in the future, but it's just such a different direction.  Trying to make the transition easy for listeners to connect to when they expect something completely different is hard.  I don't want to cut myself off from my audience, though I love that I feel free enough to express thoughts through so many different genres of music.  Although, at the same time I wanted to release "A Moment", I had just launched "Button Pusher" with one of my side project's, Oliver The Penguin.

There's also two acoustic mixes on the EP. The High Time Acoustic Mix was originally going to be the 11th track on the full Album, but was nixed in Mastering.  I wasn't too happy with the mic sound on that track any way.  I was working with a tube mic that needed a better situation of a set up.  It just ended up sounding all wrong, even though I sang my heart out.  The Way It Ends Circus Mix came about while Bob DeMaa & I were bouncing stems for live performances.  We stripped all the heavy guitars off & I started realizing this was the way I originally wanted this track to sound.   I re-did the vocals to both acoustic tracks with Bryan Carlstrom who's an amazing engineer/mixer - old school.

Bob & I then started working on a mix for Neptune's Bed after I initially thought he should just do it himself. We even walked down to the beach to collect sounds.  He's a super talented beat-guy.  At the time, I was playing guitars for my friend Laura while she was in town from Italy & she wanted to cover the song, Bambola.  I love that style of music & hunted it down on YouTube only to come across a remix of it.  I figured if that could be remixed, so could Neptune.  So, I showed the clip to Bob in this pub one night in Santa Monica.

The EP was a fun project.  I had Lance Troxel create more artwork.  This album as a whole has a lot of different voices to it.  It sort of feels like a Musical, where the reprise of something is a slightly different arrangement.  The one song I didn't put on the EP that I wanted to, was Victoria.  I think there's a downtempo/sexy arrangement somewhere.  The session is sitting in Live… but I'm stuck!  So the stems will be up at SoundCloud starting 1/18 for Champion DJ's to work a little magic with." xoxo Rie
